Chapter 95: Fairy Tale — He Has a Little Gray Wolf (21)
The little wolf was sitting on him, and Ryder did not dare move a muscle.
Even knowing the creature was only a wolf, not one of the wolf people, Ryder still felt intensely bashful.
“Little Wolf, will you get down?”
Asi found Ryder’s embrace warm and wonderfully comfortable.
Her whole body was curled up there, even her tail looped around Ryder’s waist.
Loose wolf fur had clung to him as well.
At his words, Asi looked a little unwilling.
She lifted her head and stared at Ryder without blinking, her dark, clear eyes fixed on his face.
There was a watery shine in those black eyes, making her look heartbreakingly pitiful.
Ryder felt his heart nearly melt.
And yet...
He could only ask again, “All right?”
Asi gave a few aggrieved whimpers.
But she was obedient and climbed down from him anyway.
She thought Ryder’s tone just now had been strange, though she could not tell exactly what was strange about it.
She had always been a well-behaved wolf.
And yet, the moment she got off him, Ryder suddenly ran away.
His steps were hurried, without the slightest pause.
From the way his back looked, he seemed to be rather disgusted with her.
Asi let out a few whimpers.
She shrank into the corner, pathetically burying her head in her own soft body.
Even her tail drooped listlessly to one side.
The sound of running water continued for a long while.
Then the door creaked open.
Asi, who had just lifted her head, shrank back into her own embrace.
Ryder had taken a bath and was now clean all over, carrying the faint fragrance of soap.
His slightly curled flaxen hair still dripped with water.
He had come out as soon as he finished bathing; though he felt awkward seeing the little wolf, he could not ignore the hurt look on her face when he had left.
It made his heart ache.
“Little Wolf.”
Ryder crouched down in front of Asi.
Asi ignored him.
A low, rumbling warning growl rose in her throat.
Ryder was not afraid at all. He reached out and gently stroked her back.
In a soft voice, he asked, “Are you... angry?”
Asi whimpered.
Her voice, still tinged with a childish note, was full of grievance.
Though Ryder could not see her expression, he could tell she was surely staring wide-eyed at him now, those usually clear eyes brimming with tears.
“I, I’m sorry, I...”
It was too shameful; Ryder could not bring himself to say it aloud.
He could only keep stroking Asi’s back, again and again.
He had originally thought the little wolf would surely ignore him for several days, but after hearing the rumble of her stomach, Ryder took out some chicken he had stored at home and fed it to Asi.
And then—
the little wolf kept circling him in excited little loops.
Her tail wagged with lively delight.
Ryder could not help the curve of a smile.
The little wolf was so easy to placate.
Asi was full now, but Greed was not satisfied.
After snatching half a chicken from beneath Asi’s mouth the first time, he never ate anything else again.
Though it was true that Greed could do without eating.
He was still hungry, after all.
Greed looked at Asi with almost resentful eyes.
Asi showed no intention whatsoever of paying him any mind.
Seeing that Ryder would not resist, she immediately pressed close to him.
Her gray body, still dusty from before, rubbed against Ryder again and again.
She even dirtied the clean new clothes he had just put on.
When Ryder looked down, he saw only the little wolf’s innocent eyes.
He gave a faint sigh.
He decided to give the little wolf a bath.
