The moment Asher stood up, he saw Ryder biting his lower lip so hard it had turned white. The emotion reflected in his eyes was something Asher couldn’t understand. She gently placed her hand over Ryder’s lips, slowly stroking them, hoping he would stop biting. His lip must hurt terribly, turning so pale.

“Ryder, don’t bite it anymore.”

Suddenly, Ryder snapped back to reality and looked deeply into the young girl’s eyes. The overwhelming desire to possess her surged wildly in his heart. He opened his mouth but suppressed the dark urge.

“It’s nothing, Asher. We… let’s… go collect the gold coins.”

Asher nodded and took Ryder’s hand willingly.

Ryder went inside the Knight Recruitment Office to collect the gold coins, but Asher didn’t follow him in. There were too many knights inside, and the atmosphere felt unpleasant to her, so she waited outside for Ryder.

“Those two kids are really impressive, aren’t they? So young, yet they managed to tame a fierce dragon!”

“There’s always someone stronger out there. Our continent hasn’t produced such powerful young knights skilled in magic for a long time! If we had a few more knights like them, the king wouldn’t have to fear the return of dark sorcerers!”

Mentioning the dark sorcerers, Asher pursed her lips and stepped forward a little, inching closer to the two knights to eavesdrop.

“Do you think the king’s words are accurate? Will the dark sorcerers really appear again?”

“The king’s magic is so powerful, how could he be wrong? What can we do? The dark sorcerers’ power is immense; all we can do is train harder so that when they return, we can defeat them together!”

Asher stood not far behind them, gently tapping one foot on the ground, her red cloak draped over her shoulders.

As soon as Ryder exited the Knight Recruitment Office, he saw Asher waiting and hurried over, holding a pouch full of gold coins.

“Asher, look at all these coins. We can finally buy some meat to eat.”

Asher’s eyes sparkled. “I want candy too!”

Ryder smiled and reached out to ruffle the top of her hooded head.

“Alright, Asher. Whatever you want to eat, we’ll buy it.”

On their way back, Asher and Ryder happened to encounter Mrs. Griffin sneaking a peek inside Ryder’s doorway.

“Grandma, what are you doing here?”

Mrs. Griffin was startled and turned to see Ryder, the very person she had been worried about.

“Ryder, I’m so relieved you weren’t eaten by a wolf! You don’t know what I saw! The other day, while pulling weeds in my yard, I saw a huge wolf running out of your house. It was clearly one of the wolf clan!”

Mrs. Griffin patted her chest in shock and asked anxiously, “Did that wolf come looking for you again?”

Ryder glanced at Asher, who lowered her head silently.

“Grandma, don’t worry. That wolf is one I saved in the Dark Forest before. It came back to repay me!”

Mrs. Griffin’s expression changed instantly. She looked at Ryder with a strange, unsettled gaze.

“Ryder, wolves are never good! Don’t be fooled! You’re just too kind-hearted and can’t tell good from bad!”

She glared at Ryder.

“I’m not a bad thing,” Asher mumbled softly, feeling deeply wronged.

Only then did Mrs. Griffin notice Asher standing behind Ryder, wrapped in a red cloak. Her eyes lit up immediately.

“Oh! A female knight! That’s incredible! So impressive!”
