Meeting the little girl's gaze, Lu Yu obediently loosened his grip.

He had thought Ah Si would ignore him and return to the classroom, but instead, she straightened her collar, raised her head, and looked at him in confusion.

“Why aren’t you going back to class?” she asked.

Wasn’t it she who said class had started, that they should return and listen to the lecture?

“You told me to stop just now.”

“So obedient?” Lu Yu leaned closer, a smile tugging at his lips. The fresh scent of youth emanated from him, making Ah Si’s cheeks gradually flush red.

She took a step back. “Is there anything else?”

“Do you want to stay away from me?” Lu Yu’s tone betrayed his concern; just moments ago, in front of the dean, Ah Si nodded at everything the man said. So well-behaved it was nearly outrageous—so well-behaved it made him angry.

How could she agree to whatever someone else said? Did she really want to keep her distance from him?

Ah Si considered it earnestly for a moment. Of course not. He was her little Bai, her favorite.

She shook her head honestly.

Her eyes were serious, and perhaps fearing he wouldn’t believe her, she added, “I don’t want to.”

Lu Yu bent down, the darkness in his eyes giving way to laughter that could not be concealed.

“Then why did you agree just now?” he pressed.

“Agree to what?” she asked.

“The teacher told you to stay away from me. You nodded, and even said ‘okay’.” Lu Yu’s eyes shone, his words tinged with a hint of grievance.

Ah Si found him utterly adorable and smiled. “I was lying to him.”

How could she possibly stay away from her little Bai?

“You can lie, too?” Lu Yu chuckled softly. He couldn’t help but reach out and pat Ah Si’s head; he expected the girl to push him away, but instead, she narrowed her eyes slightly, the soft pink of her lips curving just a bit.

The two little dimples at her cheeks appeared and disappeared.

She was impossibly cute.

“Go inside and attend class. I’ll wait for you at the gate when school’s over,” Lu Yu reluctantly withdrew his hand, his gaze lingering. “We’ll go home together.”

Even though they didn’t live together, saying those words inexplicably lifted Lu Yu’s spirits.

Ah Si nodded, turned, and walked into the classroom, not even glancing back.

So heartless.

Standing behind her, Lu Yu unconsciously licked his lower lip. Suddenly, someone tapped his shoulder.

He instinctively stepped back.

Again—

It was the dean.

Why wouldn’t this ghost leave him alone?

Lu Yu was summoned to the office for a long talk with the dean, although it was mostly the dean rambling on, with Lu Yu occasionally responding with a word or two.

The bell rang at last.

Lu Yu glanced up, seeing that the dean showed no intention of stopping. He simply stood, stretched, and said, “Sir, let’s talk next time.”

With that, Lu Yu ignored the flaming stare behind him and strode out.

After school, the stairway was crowded, and since Lu Yu was heading up, it was hard to squeeze through. But his reputation preceded him, and fearing Ah Si would grow impatient and leave, he looked especially fierce.

“Please make way.”

The students, previously fighting to get home, instantly fell silent and stepped aside, waiting until Lu Yu had gone upstairs. Only after a long while did the stairwell return to normal.

“Who’s so gutsy? Dare provoke him? Aren’t they afraid he’ll kill them?”

“Shh, shh, don’t let him hear you! When I was in the restroom today, I overheard him say he even hits girls! Scared me to death!”

“But Lu Yu is so handsome! You guys can’t say that about him—it must be a lie! Looks are justice!”

A mocking laugh sounded nearby. “Justice? A child of a mistress dares to talk about justice?”
