Chapter Two: After Class, Come Into My Arms
The black dragon was immense; this place could not possibly contain him. His body was covered in black scales that shimmered with scattered light. The horns upon his head gleamed with golden brilliance, imposing and majestic.
Chaoyun covered her mouth, staring in disbelief at the scene before her.
In the ancient battle between gods and demons, the Immortal Lord of Fate had been dragged to the battlefield by his friend, the God of War, to make up the numbers. When he returned, he was accompanied by a small black dragon.
At the same time, the Demon Lord of the Demon Realm had vanished mysteriously during the war. Although Chaoyun had never seen the Demon Lord, the appearance of the black dragon made her more or less guess the truth.
Within the Six Realms, aside from the Demon Lord Shangyuan, who else could have such a magnificent true form?
“A-Si, come down quickly, it’s dangerous!” Chaoyun shouted up to A-Si.
“A-Si, he is…” she started, but the black dragon cast her a sidelong glance, a silent warning in his eyes.
A-Si was already quite drunk, and now she was draped over the dragon’s neck, completely bewildered by what was happening. She clutched the dragon’s horn and said, “Xiaobai, why have you suddenly become so big? How am I supposed to cuddle you to sleep now?”
She tilted her head, a few loose strands of hair fluttering in the breeze across her forehead. Her eyes were moist, still glazed with intoxication. The corners of her lips curled in a smile as she nestled against the dragon, full of trust and affection. Dimples flickered at her cheeks, making her look utterly adorable.
Suddenly, the black dragon took flight with A-Si, glancing back once. Those deep, sharp eyes were suffused with unmistakable tenderness.
“Shangyuan! Put A-Si down!” The Demon Lord of the Demon Realm had appeared, and the realms of gods and demons immediately sensed his presence. The God of War led the celestial soldiers and generals in pursuit.
But unexpectedly, the black dragon plunged downward, carrying A-Si with him.
To the Reincarnation Platform.
The black dragon coiled beneath the platform, gently placing the woman on its surface.
“Why did we come here?” Despite her drunkenness, A-Si still recognized the place. She blinked and glanced down from the platform, addressing the great dragon before her. “Xiaobai, don’t you go jumping down there. Tens of thousands of years ago, an immortal friend leapt from here…”
She widened her eyes, pausing before continuing, “He fell into the Animal Path and spent years in reincarnation before returning to the Celestial Palace.”
As she spoke, perhaps recalling some amusing memory, she burst into laughter. A rosy flush colored her cheeks, and her dimples deepened.
The black dragon lowered his head, deep, fathomless eyes fixed on A-Si.
Thinking Xiaobai wanted her to pet him, A-Si reached out instinctively. But the dragon brushed her gently with his horn, then with a sudden force—
A-Si was pushed from the Reincarnation Platform.
“What are you doing, Demon Lord?” The God of War arrived with his celestial troops just in time to witness A-Si being pushed down.
He brandished his spear and charged the black dragon.
The dragon regarded them with a cold, disdainful glance. Then, without so much as a pause, he leapt after A-Si.
What was he doing?
Shangyuan smiled—of course, he was going after her.
Until the last tip of that black tail vanished from sight, the God of War and the assembled immortals stood frozen, unable to process what had just occurred.
The Demon Lord had jumped after her?
Why would he do such a thing?
No one understood.
In the palace of the Immortal Lord of Fate, a small booklet lay atop a stone table in the courtyard. Amidst a flurry of peach blossoms, it was slowly lifted by the wind.
Petals rained down.
On the formerly blank page of the Immortal Lord of Fate’s destiny scroll, four words gradually appeared—
A match decreed by heaven.
