Chapter 26: After Class, Come Into My Arms (24)
Lu Yu stepped directly in front of Asi, his gaze darkening as it fell on Jiang Xiaorui.
“You know me well enough, don’t you?”
He bent down, his obsidian eyes locking onto Jiang Xiaorui’s, the curve of his lips tinged with menace.
“I have no qualms about hitting women. If you dare provoke her again, you’d better be careful.”
The youth’s features were finely carved, his mouth twisted into a sinister smile.
No matter how he tried, the violence in his brows couldn’t be concealed.
Once, Jiang Xiaorui had been enamored with Lu Yu’s face—
But she had been frightened by the cruelty and coldness rooted in his bones.
He was someone she simply couldn’t afford to offend.
Feigning shock, she said, “What, you’re capable of liking someone?”
Her hand hung by her side, trembling slightly. The night Lu Yu nearly committed murder, she had hidden in the back.
Afterwards, she fell ill with fever, haunted in her dreams by his bloodthirsty gaze.
It had taken her so long to forget—yet the instant she looked into his eyes,
Those memories surged forth like a tidal wave—
Fear.
“Is it any of your business?”
He shot her a cold glare, rendering Jiang Xiaorui speechless.
As he turned away, a faint flush lingered at the corner of Lu Yu’s eyes, though his expression had softened a little.
“Are you leaving?” Or do you want to stay? If you wish to hit them, I can help you.
The youth raised his brows slightly, asking.
Asi glanced sidelong at He Rose.
“I can’t swallow this humiliation,” Rose declared, her head held high, pride radiating from her at every moment.
She was thoroughly displeased at being threatened with a lit cigarette.
Walking over to the plastic bucket kept beside the toilet—clean water, yet its presence in the bathroom made it unsettling—
Rose scooped up the water and splashed it directly onto Jiang Xiaorui, extinguishing the still-burning cigarette.
She emptied the bucket entirely, soaking Jiang Xiaorui, and then dumped a cold bucket of water over Lou Yunyun as well.
“Ah! What are you doing?!”
The cleaning lady stood at the door, broom in hand, her eyes flashing with anger as she took in the water all over the floor.
Rose, still holding the plastic bucket, received the brunt of her glare.
Asi quietly murmured, “I’m sorry, ma’am.”
Perhaps it was Asi’s obedient demeanor, her dark eyes sparkling with apology,
The cleaning lady’s anger abated somewhat.
“Don’t blame me for getting angry, girls. You wasted a perfectly good bucket of water, and look at the mess you’ve made. How is anyone supposed to use the bathroom now?”
The woman’s barrage of words left Jiang Xiaorui visibly impatient.
“She’s just a cleaner—what’s she getting so worked up about?”
Having spoken, she shot a glare at He Rose, then addressed her group of friends, “Are we leaving or not? Why stay here?”
Soaked to the skin, her makeup washed away, she looked utterly ridiculous.
Just as she was about to leave, she saw Asi blocking the doorway.
The girl stepped forward, standing protectively in front of the cleaning lady, her black eyes full of discontent.
It was obvious she was deliberately blocking the way.
Jiang Xiaorui was ready to curse, but caught a glimpse of Lu Yu standing beside Asi, his posture protective.
Her heart quivered.
Her tone unconsciously softened, “Could you please move aside?”
Asi frowned, the little dimples at the corners of her mouth pressed out.
Her hand squeezed the hem of her dress over and over.
“Jiang, you were the one who started this. Rose splashed you, so now it’s even. But that’s between us.”
“Rose made a mess, and that’s on her. But it’s wrong for you to insult someone; you owe the cleaning lady an apology.”
Asi’s face turned serious, her dark eyes simmering with anger.
In the Heavenly Palace, the Celestial Emperor taught all the gods:
All beings are equal, there is no distinction between noble and humble.
