Asi lay sprawled on the ground, looking utterly listless.

She was starving too.

Greed was still chattering incessantly about something.

How annoying.

Suddenly, Asi wondered if the Heavenly Emperor perhaps disliked her; why else would he send such an irritating little companion down with her?

She whimpered softly.

Tilting her head back, she let out a few plaintive calls.

She needed to go find something to eat.

She was simply too hungry to bear it any longer.

Just as Asi got to her feet, Greed floated over.

"Wonderful, wonderful! Let's go, let's go, let's catch a chicken to eat!"

Asi tentatively took a few steps forward. Aside from the slope, there didn’t seem to be any serious obstacles.

At that very moment, as she stood up, a rabbit suddenly crashed headlong into a tree.

That’s right—a rabbit ran straight into a tree.

Asi’s eyes shone for an instant.

She was just about to approach when a startled cry rang out.

A girl came rushing over.

She was fast—perhaps something was chasing her from behind.

The girl hadn’t expected to find a wolf ahead and blanched in terror.

Her limbs gave out, and she collapsed onto the ground.

Asi stood innocently to the side, her dark, watery eyes fixed unblinkingly on the girl.

She whimpered again.

Don’t be afraid of me; I don’t eat people.

"Ah! Help me!" the girl shrieked, hugging her head and scrambling backward until her back pressed against a tree.

When she opened her eyes, she saw the rabbit that had died from the impact.

Her gaze toward Asi became even more fearful.

It seemed the rabbit was out of the question now. Asi regretfully flicked her tail.

She was about to leave when she noticed a larger, stronger grey wolf approaching at a steady pace.

Upon seeing Asi, the wolf looked quite surprised as well and ignored the girl entirely.

He walked straight to Asi’s side, lifted his head, and let out a few low calls.

In an instant, he transformed into a man of about thirty or forty years old.

"Injured?" he asked.

A wolf’s nose is keen, especially when it comes to the magic of Red-Hooded Knights.

This little grey wolf clearly carried the scent of a magic arrow.

The man squatted down and carefully inspected Asi’s body, his brows furrowing.

"Strange—there’s no wound?"

Asi recognized one of her own kind and immediately felt a sense of kinship, whining softly a few times.

She even gently swept her tail over him.

I was just healed by a human—a really handsome young mage, she seemed to say, her bright eyes glimmering like water.

The man stroked his stubbled chin and muttered, "There’s actually such a kind-hearted human? One who heals wolves?"

He pondered for a moment, glancing at Asi, then remembered he’d just been chasing a human girl.

When his gaze fell on the girl again, his expression darkened.

"Get out! The Black Forest doesn’t welcome your kind!"

"If I see you here again, I’ll tear you apart!"

As he spoke, he bared his teeth. Where once there had been neat white teeth, they now became razor-sharp.

The girl, terrified, staggered to her feet and fled.

Only when her figure disappeared into the distance did the man’s expression relax.

Greed looked at the man with deep admiration. "Asi, look at other wolves—so fierce! And just look at you, you haven’t even grown all your teeth!"

Asi wrinkled her wolfish brow and whimpered in protest.

The man, recalling the little grey wolf by his side, reached out and vigorously ruffled Asi’s fluffy head.

"Why are you wandering around, little pup? Don’t you know there are bad people lurking in the Black Forest? What if something happened to you?"

"Come, let’s go home with Uncle!"
