Asi pressed her lips tightly and said nothing. She sneaked a glance at Lu Yu, only to see his brows furrowed, looking quite intimidating. She wanted to say that neither option was good, but... Xiao Bai’s expression was just too fierce.

“I don’t want to lose all my teeth,” Asi looked at Lu Yu and added, “and I don’t want to stop eating candy.”

Lu Yu was amused, but seeing the little girl looking at him so aggrieved, he couldn’t bear to be harsh. “Then what do you want?”

Asi lowered her head, twisting her fingers together, hesitated for a while, and finally said, “Maybe… I could eat less from now on. Is that okay?”

The girl stood right in front of him, her dark eyes moist and sparkling, blinking up at him. How could Lu Yu possibly have the heart to refuse?

“Alright, then let’s agree to eat less from now on.” He extended his pinky, coaxing her like a child, “Asi has to keep her word, okay?”

Asi immediately hooked her little finger around his and nodded. Her eyes shone brightly—a model child who always kept her promises.

“From now on, you have to listen to me. I’ll tell you when you can eat candy and how many pieces you’re allowed, and you have to obey.”

Asi pursed her lips in silence, clearly dissatisfied.

“If you can’t do that, then you won’t be allowed any at all,” Lu Yu threatened.

In the end, Asi nodded reluctantly.

“Pinky swear, hang it up for a hundred years, no backing out,” she intoned.

Lu Yu suddenly smiled, hugging the candy box, bent down and affectionately patted Asi’s head. “I’ll keep this for you now. You can have it when your teeth are better.”

Asi looked crestfallen, watching as Lu Yu walked away with her stash of candy hidden by Chao Yun.

“You really have the heart to let it go,” Chao Yun said, watching helplessly as Asi handed her most treasured candy box to Lu Yu. Normally, Asi wouldn’t even let Chao Yun look at it, always hiding it away, but now she’d given it all to Lu Yu. Just thinking about it made her angry.

“He’s Xiao Bai,” Asi replied proudly.

“Yes, yes, your Xiao Bai is the best,” Chao Yun rolled her eyes silently, feeling a little sour inside.

Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, Asi was about to graduate from high school. In her final year, she ended up sharing a desk with Rose again.

Su Jing had gone off to university early, and Lu Yu… had dropped out.

Lu Yu’s withdrawal caused quite a stir at the high school, but soon the intense pressure of senior year swept it all away.

Asi and Rose’s grades remained unchanged, but neither of them cared. Rose simply had her father behind her, and Asi honestly just couldn’t learn, no matter how hard she tried.

“Asi, there’s a new noodle shop outside the school. Let’s go there for lunch today!” Rose had already packed her bag before class ended.

Asi nodded, taking a piece of candy from her bag.

“Asi, you’re eating candy again! Your Lu Yu told me to keep an eye on you! Give it here! No more eating!”

Asi quickly popped the candy into her mouth and mumbled, “He gave me this one. We agreed I could have one a day. Just one.”

The sweet strawberry flavor melted on her tongue, and Asi squinted her eyes in satisfaction, the dimples on her cheeks appearing and disappearing.

When school was over, Rose grabbed Asi’s arm and dashed downstairs. Even though they were on the sixth floor, Rose’s speed was unbeatable, and by the time they burst out of the building, the corridors were already clogged.

“See, you have to run faster after school, or you won’t even get to eat!”
