Chapter 71: After Class, Come Into My Arms (69)
That day, Greed’s company happened to land a major business deal. Everyone was given the day off.
Greed shamelessly made his way to Lu Yu’s house. The reason was simple: lately, Lu Yu’s cooking had become exceptionally delicious. All because he’d been practicing for the young lady.
Ever since Lu Yu moved in, Chao Yun guarded against him as if he were a thief. To win over A Si’s sister—and more importantly, to capture the girl’s heart through her stomach—Lu Yu practiced his culinary skills daily.
Greed found out by accident and, after pestering relentlessly, insisted on tagging along. But Lu Yu had no interest in cooking for him.
“Lu Yu, you can’t be like this! At least let Uncle have a bite to eat!”
“Order takeout yourself,” Lu Yu replied, without a hint of mercy.
“Hmph, you heartless brat.”
“I won’t be coming to the company tomorrow or the day after.”
Greed sprawled across Lu Yu’s sofa, munching on a big bag of snacks. He rolled his eyes and said, “Are you taking the college entrance exam?”
“Mm.”
“But it’s not you who’s taking it. Why aren’t you going to work?”
“I need to accompany her.”
Lu Yu didn’t want to talk any further, browsing something intently on his phone. So engrossed was he, he didn’t even notice Greed leaning in.
Greed glanced at the screen: One Hundred and One Ways to Confess.
“So? After all this time, you’re finally thinking about confessing?” Greed’s sudden voice startled Lu Yu. He calmly put away his phone and murmured a quiet affirmation.
“Hey, buddy, that won’t do. After all this time, she’s been with you without any clear status?” Greed stared in disbelief. He always assumed Lu Yu and A Si were a couple, but clearly their relationship wasn’t what he’d imagined.
How could they still seem so close?
Lu Yu coughed lightly.
“Uncle Mo, if I confess after her exams, do you think she’ll agree?” Lu Yu pressed his lips together, clearly troubled. “I always feel like she doesn’t actually like me.”
“She doesn’t like you, yet she’s so close to you? Have you ever seen her treat any other boy the way she treats you?” Greed couldn’t help himself, smacking Lu Yu’s head in satisfaction.
What a relief! He’d always been bullied by Shang Yuan, but now he could finally get some payback. Greed felt delighted.
“Don’t overthink things!”
Lu Yu shot him a cold look and returned to searching for ways to confess successfully.
The day of the college entrance exam arrived swiftly. Lu Yu had already prepared water and snacks, waiting for A Si to come out.
After the last exam, the young lady emerged, her face relaxed and carefree. Lu Yu hurried over and handed her a bottle of water.
“Are you hungry? There are snacks in the car, you can have something to tide you over.”
A Si obediently took the water and drank a few sips. She followed Lu Yu into the car. Though she hadn’t understood much of the test questions, sitting there drained her mentally, and now she was hungry.
She grabbed the snacks prepared in the back seat.
“Just have a little to fill your stomach, we’ll be eating soon anyway.”
“Okay.” Hearing there would be good food later, A Si immediately put the snacks down. After a moment’s thought, she opened a packet and began nibbling slowly.
In the rearview mirror, the young girl’s expression was gentle and soft. Lu Yu glanced at her from time to time, feeling as though his heart might leap out of his chest.
She was so wonderful…
What if she said no?
Anxiety crept over Lu Yu.
“Wow! It’s so beautiful! Xiao Bai, look!” A Si leaned against the window, gazing outside.
A restaurant, exquisitely decorated, stood before them. Pink balloons hung at the entrance. Where Lu Yu parked, a path strewn with fresh flowers led straight to the door.
