Chapter 71: If Anything Happens to Him, I Will Bury You All with Him!
Lin Feng’s eyes were tightly shut, his body motionless, his face drained to a ghostly white, and his lips devoid of any trace of color. Chu Lingshuang felt her heart clench sharply, and a wild, unreasoning panic spread from her chest through her limbs. She could not control the tremor in her hands.
“Where is everyone?! Yu Xueyan! Get in here now!” she screamed, nearly mad with rage. At the doorway, Yu Xueyan shuddered, then rushed into the bathroom, instinctively covering her eyes for fear of seeing something she shouldn’t.
“M-miss...” Yu Xueyan stammered, wanting to ask if Lin Feng was dressed.
She was met with a furious outburst.
“What are you standing there for? Help him!” Chu Lingshuang thundered, grabbing a towel from nearby and tossing it into the tub.
Yu Xueyan peeked through her fingers and, seeing the tub filled with foam and now draped with a towel, breathed a sigh of relief. She quickly moved to check Lin Feng’s breathing.
Chu Lingshuang swayed slightly, anxiety etched on her face as she stared at Lin Feng. Her expression had reached the depths of pallor. The rising steam in the bathroom did nothing to weaken the oppressive tension radiating from her.
Her lips pressed into a thin line, her complexion blanched with panic. She bit down hard on her lower lip as she strode to the bathroom door.
Outside, Zhang Peng watched in terror as his young mistress approached step by step. He had never seen her this furious.
Zhang Peng wilted. He stammered, “M-miss...”
Smack! The crisp sound of a slap rang out in the bathroom before he could finish. Zhang Peng clutched his cheek in shock, but when he met Chu Lingshuang’s gaze, he quickly dropped his head in fear.
Though his cheek stung, he dared not utter a word of complaint. He knew he had made a grave mistake.
He had thought that someone who hadn’t eaten in four days would be superhuman just to resist, so he hadn’t given Lin Feng’s words much thought—he had forgotten that Lin Feng was a living, breathing human being. After starving so long, how could he have trusted him to bathe alone?
With a thud, Zhang Peng knelt to the ground. His subordinates, stunned by the scene, hurried to kneel alongside him in fear.
Clenching his fists, Zhang Peng admitted his fault. “Miss, I was wrong. Please punish me.”
“Punish you?” Chu Lingshuang’s voice was as cold as death itself, burning with fury. “You think you’re worthy?”
Smack!
Another heavy slap struck Zhang Peng’s face; he grunted, gritting his teeth against the pain, but stayed silent. He bowed his head as Chu Lingshuang’s icy voice cut through the room once more.
“If he’s unharmed, it ends here. If anything happens to him, you will all accompany him to the grave!” Her words stabbed straight into Zhang Peng’s heart.
He began to tremble, knowing she was not jesting. As a member of the Chu family’s security, he was all too aware of the family’s ruthlessness toward those who made mistakes. It was one of the reasons the Chu family sat so firmly at the pinnacle—only with such measures could they remain unrivaled.
“Yes!” Zhang Peng nodded heavily, finally understanding why Miss Yu had urged him to treat Lin Feng with respect. This man clearly meant everything to his mistress.
Lowering his head, he silently prayed Lin Feng would be alright.
“Zhang Peng, quickly, help me lift him up and get the water out of his lungs!” Yu Xueyan’s anxious shout echoed from the bathroom. Zhang Peng leapt to his feet and rushed inside.
Driven by his fear of Chu Lingshuang’s wrath, adrenaline surged in Zhang Peng’s veins as he hefted Lin Feng with one arm and laid him on the massage bed in the bathroom.
He rolled Lin Feng onto his stomach and, following Yu Xueyan’s instructions, began to pat his back.
“The rest of you, go prepare a bowl of honey water, a sugar cube, and if the congee is ready, bring it here. And fetch my medical kit—move!” Yu Xueyan, knowing Lin Feng’s life could not be risked, began barking orders.
Everyone responded at once, scattering to their tasks.
She pulled out two cotton swabs, pried open Lin Feng’s mouth, and stuck the swabs in.
Lin Feng gagged and vomited up a mouthful of water.
“Good, he’s getting it out, that’s good,” Yu Xueyan murmured, still patting his back.
Despite this, Chu Lingshuang’s anxiety did not abate. Seeing Lin Feng’s bloodless face, she bit her lip until it nearly bled.
So, Lin Feng, you’d rather die than stay here? Do you truly despise her so?
The more she thought about it, the angrier and more hurt she became. Realizing how much her emotions were tied to Lin Feng, her heart only grew more turbulent—she had never wanted anyone this badly.
Her fists clenched so tightly her nails dug into her palms.
Die? Not so easily! Unless she tired of him, she would never let him go—even if it killed her, she would not set him free.
Lin Feng, having eaten nothing, vomited up more bile. Yu Xueyan, relieved, said, “That’s enough, Zhang Peng, help him get dressed and carry him to bed. I’ll give him an injection.”
“Yes!” Zhang Peng replied, quickly wrapping Lin Feng in a robe and carrying him outside.
“Miss, this bedroom isn’t suitable anymore. When Lin Feng wakes up, he might have psychological issues,” Yu Xueyan said gravely, looking at Chu Lingshuang.
Even if it meant being scolded, she had to speak up—Lin Feng couldn’t endure any more trauma. The young mistress herself already had her own mental scars; if Lin Feng broke as well, how could she go on?
Chu Lingshuang’s gaze flicked to her own bedroom. “Take him to my room.”
“Yes!” Yu Xueyan breathed a sigh of relief and, with Zhang Peng, helped carry Lin Feng to Chu Lingshuang’s chamber.
They laid him on her large bed, and Yu Xueyan swiftly gave him an injection, hung the IV, and took the honey water from a subordinate, spooning it into Lin Feng’s mouth.
But he kept his lips tightly shut; honey water trickled down his cheek, soaking the pillow.
Seeing this, Chu Lingshuang grew frantic. She strode over, snatched the bowl from Yu Xueyan’s hands, and said sharply, “Let me do it!”
“Yes!” Yu Xueyan dared not object and quickly pried Lin Feng’s mouth open.
With painstaking care, Chu Lingshuang fed him spoonful by spoonful.
Before long, the bowl was empty. She placed a sugar cube in his mouth, and as the IV steadily dripped, Lin Feng’s breathing finally steadied.
Zhang Peng and Yu Xueyan wiped the sweat from their brows in silent relief. If anything had happened to Lin Feng, they would have been finished.
“Miss, once he wakes up, give him some congee and he’ll be fine. I’ve prepared the medicine; just have him take it later,” Yu Xueyan said quietly, placing the medicine on the bedside table. Seeing Chu Lingshuang silent, she signaled Zhang Peng, and together they led everyone quietly out of the room.
