Chapter 46: She Must Not Let Lin Feng Succeed So Easily!
Just as Zhang Xiuhua finished cooking and stepped outside, she caught sight of the bustling scene before her. The corners of her mouth twitched, and she hurriedly pulled Lin Feng aside.
“Xiao Feng, where on earth did you find so many people?”
“From a university part-time group.”
Zhang Xiuhua hesitated, the corners of her mouth twitching again. “With so many people, their wages and all that...”
She hadn’t finished, but Lin Feng already understood her concerns. He smiled reassuringly. “Aunt Zhang, don’t worry. Yihan Group is a major company—one of the most renowned in Beijing. Now that you’re collaborating with them, your store will only get more customers, not fewer. Just relax and enjoy being the boss, counting your money.”
Hearing this, some of the tension left Zhang Xiuhua’s furrowed brow. “If you say it’ll work, then it will!” She looked at Lin Feng with absolute trust, her tone unyielding. “From now on, you’re in charge of store supplies. Whatever you need, just tell me and I’ll transfer you the money!”
“Thank you for trusting me, Aunt Zhang. Leave it to me.” Lin Feng grinned. “Once we make our first profit, you can start thinking about expanding. Maybe open a big supermarket, hire a dozen people, and then you can retire early.”
Zhang Xiuhua’s face beamed with delight. Early retirement—something she’d never even dared to dream of in her earlier years. She had already felt content to be running a convenience store in Beijing, but she never expected she might strike it rich in her later years.
“I knew you were the right one to trust! Top students really are different!” Zhang Xiuhua clapped Lin Feng’s shoulder excitedly, her eyes sparkling with joy. “I never had much schooling, and this is the first time I’ve seen something on such a grand scale. It’s all thanks to you. Without you, I wouldn’t know what to do with all this.”
“You truly are my lucky star. Ever since you arrived, everything’s gone smoothly, and business is booming!” Zhang Xiuhua couldn’t stop smiling, her praise flowing endlessly.
Lin Feng felt a bit embarrassed by all the compliments and gave an awkward laugh. What could he say? Tell her that all of this was a scheme orchestrated by Chu Lingshuang to make things difficult for him?
But come to think of it, this time Chu Lingshuang hadn’t sent anyone over to forcibly drag him away, which was a surprise. Still, did she really think he’d come crawling back to her? Impossible!
Now that the joint contract was set in stone, even if Chu Lingshuang tried to breach it and pull her goods, there’d be a hefty compensation—Zhang Xiuhua couldn’t lose. Since she still wanted to make things hard for him, let her try! He’d never been afraid of anyone.
Determination flashed in Lin Feng’s eyes as his thoughts cleared. He clutched his notebook and smiled. “Aunt Zhang, I’m off to check the inventory. We’ll talk later when things quiet down.”
“Alright!” Aunt Zhang nodded with a smile. “It’s not easy for these students to come help out so late. Tell them, from now on, whenever they work evenings, I’ll cook a big pot of food and everyone can eat together before heading home!”
“Will do!” Lin Feng replied with a cheerful grin and headed to the store entrance to tally the goods.
With more than twenty university students working efficiently and racing against time, they finished the job in under two hours.
As soon as the wages hit their accounts, every student was over the moon!
Lin Feng couldn’t wipe the grin off his face when he saw an extra ten thousand in his account. University students really were affordable!
He beamed. “Whoever comes to help tomorrow night—dinner’s on me!”
His announcement sent a wave of excitement through the students. Five hundred a day, paid daily, with dinner included, and it was a good workout—far better than jogging in the evenings!
A swarm of more than twenty students crowded around, clamoring to add Lin Feng as a friend.
As they left, they called out cheerfully, “Thanks, Brother Lin! I’ll be back tomorrow! I moved nearly fifty boxes today!”
“Please, that’s nothing. I moved eighty-seven!”
“Step aside, I hauled a hundred boxes and didn’t even brag. What are you all boasting about?”
“Brother Feng, let us know in the group tomorrow and we’ll come right after class!”
“See you tomorrow, Brother Lin!”
After seeing off the university students, Lin Feng transferred another thousand yuan to Li Hao and joked, “You coming again tomorrow?”
“Of course! Definitely!” Li Hao quickly accepted the transfer, grinning. “This is way better than my company job. I just kept the books for a bit and made this much—no way I’m missing out!”
Lin Feng slung an arm around Li Hao’s shoulder. “Come on, my treat tonight—let’s get some barbecue!”
“Really, Brother Lin?” Li Hao’s eyes lit up instantly.
“Would I lie? Come on, let’s go all out!”
Just as Lin Feng predicted, for a whole week, thanks to the trending buzz and visits from popular internet celebrities, the customer flow at Warmth Convenience Store only increased. Every day, Lin Feng rallied university students in the group to help move goods. The excellent pay and perks sent all the nearby college part-time groups into a frenzy!
Every day, countless students inquired in the group if more workers were needed. Lin Feng never had to worry about finding help.
Under his guidance, the store even launched a membership system, which sent customers rushing to sign up.
There was a simple reason: Yihan Group, as one of Beijing’s most famous companies, was incredibly hard to get into, with great pay, excellent benefits, and—most importantly—gorgeous female directors. Their first-ever collaboration with a convenience store drew crowds eager to see what Yihan Group was up to and maybe make themselves known.
These days, who wouldn’t want to rub shoulders with a big company?
So, one morning a week later, even Fang Minghao showed up in his car...
“Bro-in-law! So this is where you’ve been hiding instead of at the company?”
Lin Feng, busy greeting customers, glanced at the door and his smile immediately faded. Why wouldn’t this pest just leave him alone?
Fang Minghao looked at Lin Feng with puppy-dog eyes and hurried over, grinning obsequiously. “Bro-in-law, why didn’t you say you were working here? I could have brought my friends to support you!”
“I’m not your brother-in-law! Your sister and I broke up!”
Lin Feng’s tone was cold, making it clear he had no intention of engaging.
But Fang Minghao’s eyes lit up slyly. He scooped up an armful of snacks and rushed to the checkout, just to get a few more words with Lin Feng as he paid.
“Bro-in-law, don’t be like that. My sister really regrets it. We even went to your company to look for you the other day...”
Lin Feng scanned the items briskly, face expressionless. “Five hundred sixty-three.”
“Wait, I’ll grab some more!”
He dashed off with a basket, returning a minute later with another pile.
If he wanted to buy, Lin Feng would scan. No questions asked. Money coming in—why refuse?
Lin Feng continued to scan the goods, face cold.
Fang Minghao grinned ingratiatingly. “Bro-in-law, is Yihan Group planning to start a supermarket chain? Give me a tip-off and I’ll get my sister to open one too...”
“That’ll be eight hundred ninety.”
Lin Feng shot him a frosty look.
“And these, too—add them in, I’ll take everything!” Fang Minghao pointed at the gum on the counter, craning his neck as he cajoled, “Come on, bro-in-law, just a little tip?”
“One thousand thirty-five.”
With the line growing impatient behind him, Fang Minghao hurried to pay.
Lin Feng didn’t say another word, scanned the payment, and called out, “Next!”
With his arms full, Fang Minghao didn’t care whether Lin Feng responded. He called out over his shoulder, “Bro-in-law, I’ll bring my sister tomorrow—let’s settle it then!”
Lin Feng rolled his eyes and kept ringing up customers, not bothering to reply.
...
Finding university students... You really are something!
At Ziguang Mansion, Chu Lingshuang stared at the report Yuxueyan had sent her about Lin Feng’s recent activities, a rare crack appearing in her icy composure.
She never would have thought Lin Feng could come up with such a low-down tactic... And he was skimming five hundred from each transaction! Over the past few days, he’d already made fifty or sixty thousand.
This man was downright shameless!
Chu Lingshuang fumed, unable to fathom how anyone would willingly do such menial, backbreaking work for only five hundred a day. Had everyone lost their minds?
Now, those people were working for Lin Feng, and he just sat back like a lord, doing nothing. When would he finally give up?
Gritting her teeth, Chu Lingshuang swore she wouldn’t let Lin Feng have it so easy!
Her eyes narrowed as she sent Yuxueyan a message: “Prepare a car for tomorrow afternoon. You’re coming with me to that convenience store.”
