Chapter 63: She Is the True Master!
As soon as she finished speaking, Xia Qingqing instinctively bit her lower lip.
Lin Feng had always been distant and hard to approach. She had tried several times before to invite him to dinner, but he had flatly refused each time. Now, to suddenly bring it up—especially in front of her mother—felt almost as if she were forcing him...
Realizing this, Xia Qingqing hurried to explain, “Brother Lin, don’t misunderstand me, I... I didn’t mean it like that... I just…”
She hadn’t finished when Lin Feng’s voice sounded.
“All right!”
Xia Qingqing’s eyes widened in shock!
Before she could recover, Lin Feng continued, “Is there anything you need my help with?”
“No... no!” Xia Qingqing was so excited her whole body trembled. She quickly said, “Once Mom finishes this IV, I’ll just take her home!”
After speaking, she lifted her arm with excitement. “Brother Lin, just wait for a feast tonight!”
Seeing her adorable expression, Lin Feng’s lips curved in a slight smile. Having such a lively and innocent little sister was not so bad. Her invitation suited him perfectly; he was curious to see what her home was like.
He waited by the hospital bed as Xia Cailian received her infusion.
With Xia Qingqing feeding her, Xia Cailian only managed half a bowl of porridge before falling asleep.
Lin Feng frowned deeply, recalling the memo he had seen on Xia Qingqing’s phone.
Twenty-five years old… So it was only a few days ago that his real birthday had passed.
Xia Qingqing was only a year younger, which meant that ever since she could remember, Xia Cailian had been celebrating his birthday for him.
Perhaps, his being lost had nothing to do with Xia Cailian after all.
He suddenly felt that his previous thoughts had been too heartless.
But, after experiencing that kind of life, who could still empathize so easily…
He tried to console himself with this thought as he watched Xia Qingqing gathering their things.
Once she had packed up, she got up to wake the sleeping Xia Cailian. Lin Feng was momentarily taken aback.
“You’re just going to leave like this?”
Xia Qingqing paused. “Yes, Brother Lin, wait here for me. I’ll take Mom home and come back for you.”
Lin Feng’s lips twitched in surprise. “You didn’t arrange for a car?”
“My car’s still in Beijing,” Xia Qingqing replied automatically, then smiled. “It’s fine, Brother Lin. My mom’s just not quite right in the head. She still knows to hold on when she rides on the back of my scooter.”
Lin Feng was speechless.
This was simply unacceptable!
A patient riding a scooter home from the hospital?
He hadn’t known before, but now that he was here in person, how could he just stand by and do nothing?
Even if they were just friends, he ought to help.
Lin Feng stood up. “Don’t wake her yet. Let me help you find a car.”
Before Xia Qingqing could respond, Lin Feng had already left the ward. In Pingyang County, if he wanted to borrow a car, only Cao Siyuan could help.
With this in mind, he dialed Cao Siyuan’s number.
“Old Cao, can I borrow a minivan? I’ll send you the location.”
When Cao Siyuan got Lin Feng’s call, he was over the moon. Without a word, he arranged for a minivan and a driver to be sent over.
In less than an hour, the car arrived.
Lin Feng asked Xia Qingqing to fetch their things while he carefully lifted Xia Cailian into his arms.
The moment he held her, Lin Feng’s brow furrowed tightly. Xia Cailian was painfully thin—so thin it was as though she hadn’t had a proper meal in years. Her bones dug into his hands.
He pressed his lips together tightly and carried her into the elevator.
After leaving the hospital, he settled Xia Cailian into the minivan and got in with Xia Qingqing.
As the car set off, Xia Qingqing looked around at the interior, her excitement palpable, as though she’d never seen anything like it before.
Lin Feng, meanwhile, sat in silence, his face grave.
Soon, they reached Anxin Village.
Glancing out the window, Lin Feng was surprised. He hadn’t expected Xia Qingqing’s home to be in such a small village. Hadn’t she said she’d gotten into Yihan Group through connections?
The car stopped in front of a self-built house.
Lin Feng carried Xia Cailian inside, following Xia Qingqing’s directions.
The house was actually quite nice—a two-story home they’d built themselves, tastefully arranged and well equipped. By village standards, it was above average.
He carried Xia Cailian upstairs to her bedroom, laid her down, and covered her with a blanket.
Xia Qingqing made several trips from the car, hauling things inside.
Just as Lin Feng emerged into the living room, Xia Qingqing finished up. She looked at him with heartfelt gratitude. “Brother Lin, thank you so much for today.”
“It’s nothing.” Lin Feng waved her thanks aside, suppressing his questions. “Is it just the two of you living here?”
“My grandparents are at the factory—they won’t be back until tonight,” Xia Qingqing replied offhandedly. She seemed to notice Lin Feng’s confusion and laughed. “Brother Lin, are you wondering how I got into Yihan Group?”
Lin Feng nodded, a little surprised that his thoughts were so transparent.
“My grandpa asked County Chief Kong for help,” Xia Qingqing said with a beaming smile, her eyes shining with admiration. “My grandpa is amazing—he started a factory here in our village, got everyone involved, and now our village is one of the county’s top taxpayers!”
“That really is impressive,” Lin Feng admitted, feeling a touch of respect. He knew from his own experience leading the Xu family how difficult that could be—let alone in a rural place with poor transportation.
“All right, Brother Lin, Mom’s asleep for now. Let’s go buy groceries!” Xia Qingqing jingled her scooter keys, smiling brightly. “Come on, I’ll take you on my little scooter!”
“Okay.”
Seated on Xia Qingqing’s scooter, Lin Feng leaned back as she twisted the throttle, and they rattled down the gravel lane.
...
Outsourcing... It really was the only solution he could come up with.
Chu Lingshuang’s lips twitched as she read Yu Xueyan’s report. Fifty million worth of goods, and there was simply no way to get rid of them.
“Issue them as welfare to the subsidiaries,” she ordered.
Watching Yu Xueyan’s reply, Chu Lingshuang narrowed her eyes.
This wouldn’t do. It was the second time already. No matter what tricks she played, Lin Feng always managed to deal with it using all sorts of underhanded means.
She truly hadn’t expected Lin Feng to have so many shameless tricks up his sleeve!
There was simply no way to catch him out.
If she let him go on like this, he might really think he had her at his mercy.
But what irked her most was the hollow feeling she’d had these past couple of days. Watching his live broadcast, the replay clips going viral online in less than twenty-four hours, the way those women frantically flooded him with gifts—it all made her irrationally angry!
Angry that he would show himself to all those women, angry that he made her angry!
He wasn’t even here...
Perhaps, it was because he wasn’t here!
It shouldn’t be like this!
She was supposed to be the one in control. She wouldn’t allow Lin Feng to turn the tables on her!
