Chapter 71: The Successor of the Zhao Family's Military Domain
Su Muqing knew that she and Qin Xuan ultimately belonged to different worlds. Whether good or bad, it had little to do with her. She was just an ordinary person, while Qin Xuan was—a swordsman. Although, at this point, she still didn’t really understand what being a swordsman meant.
Facing Qin Xuan, Su Muqing simply felt grateful that he had saved her twice. It was only because of the incident with Li Shihao that she had gotten a bit closer to him.
At this moment, Qin Xuan glanced at the matron in the white coat beside them. “People like her can actually be dealt with through connections, don’t you think? Someone like her staying in the hospital is a menace to society.”
“Oh, young man, don’t joke like that.” The matron in the white coat waved her hands in panic. “I’m not worth all that trouble. I’m just following the director’s orders, trying to make a living…”
Su Muqing shook her head as well, helplessly saying, “I only know a few people in the hospital, that’s all. I can’t interfere in their personnel matters.”
“If you two can’t do it, I can!”
At that moment, a commanding voice suddenly rang out from the doorway.
Everyone looked up to see a military officer with two bars and three stars on his shoulder straps entering, leading several people. It was Zhao Jun. His face was stern, but when he saw Qin Xuan, he allowed a hint of a smile.
“Xiao Qin, I heard you brought my man to the hospital. Let me thank you first.”
“Instructor Liu acted bravely. What I did is only right,” Qin Xuan replied with a smile.
“Good, you’re a fine young man. But I heard there was some foul play in this matter. Xiao Qin, since you brought Xiao Liu to the hospital, you must know something about it, right?” A glint of coldness flashed in Zhao Jun’s eyes. He would never let off anyone who tried to harm his people—that was the minimum dignity of a soldier!
“Yes.” Qin Xuan nodded and told Zhao Jun about the phone conversation between the rich young man and his mother. Since Zhao Jun was willing to handle it, Qin Xuan could save himself a lot of trouble.
As someone from the Jinling Military Region, it would be all too easy for Zhao Jun to deal with a hospital director. As for that rich young man, a few words would be enough to make his life miserable.
“Hmph, they must be tired of living.” Zhao Jun’s anger flared when he heard how that mother and son had targeted his soldier, though he restrained himself in front of Qin Xuan.
“If Xiao Liu doesn’t pull through, I’ll have them pay with their lives! I mean what I say!” The matron in the white coat was so terrified by the sight that she didn’t dare utter a word. The wrath of a soldier is not something an ordinary person can withstand.
“All right, where do we register and pay the fees?”
Qin Xuan turned to ask the matron.
“Over there…” she stammered, pointing nervously across the corridor.
Qin Xuan was about to walk over, but Zhao Jun stopped him with a hand. “No need, Xiao Qin. Let me handle this bill; I can’t trouble you, especially since Xiao Liu is my man.”
Qin Xuan paused, and Zhao Jun went on, “The medical fees will be paid by Wang Xiang.”
“Wang Xiang?” Qin Xuan was puzzled.
“The new student at the medical school,” Zhao Jun explained.
“Him?” Qin Xuan was a bit surprised. “But he wasn’t the one who caused the accident. Can he really pay?”
“Hmph, he’d better. Unless he doesn’t want to graduate. If anything happens to Xiao Liu, he won’t even have the chance to pay the bill.”
Qin Xuan quickly understood. The freshman military training credits were entirely in Zhao Jun’s hands. If Wang Xiang, the rich kid, didn’t cooperate, it would be all too easy to keep him from earning those credits.
“All right, Xiao Qin, you don’t need to worry about things here anymore. Why don’t you and… Su Muqing head back to campus?” Zhao Jun nodded. As Zhao Long’s second uncle, it was only natural that he knew Su Muqing.
But Su Muqing wasn’t very familiar with him; after all, he was in the military, and they hadn’t met often.
“How could I just leave? Instructor Liu is still in danger. I’m the one who brought him to the hospital; I can’t just walk away.” Qin Xuan coughed.
“That’s right.” Su Muqing nodded as well. She glanced at Zhao Jun and suddenly remembered who he was—the younger brother of the current Zhao family head, Zhao Jun, once hailed as the military successor of the Zhao family years ago.
Unfortunately, due to a grave mistake years ago, he hadn’t been promoted in nearly a decade.
As she was searching her memory for information about Zhao Jun, two girls in camouflage uniforms suddenly burst in, their faces filled with worry and anxiety.
“Who are you?” Su Muqing quickly asked, since it was obvious that girls wearing camouflage at this time must be freshmen.
“You’re… you’re a teacher at Jinling University, aren’t you?” one of the girls recognized Su Muqing and said excitedly, “We’re freshmen at Jinling University. How is that instructor? We… we’re the ones he saved.”
Su Muqing immediately understood. Zhao Jun turned as well. “You two. So Xiao Liu was hit by a car saving you?”
“Yes… we’re sorry.” The two girls clung to each other, a little frightened by Zhao Jun.
“Haha, nothing to apologize for, it’s not your fault. When Xiao Liu wakes up, just remember to thank him. We soldiers may not have much, but we do have plenty of courage!” Zhao Jun laughed, thinking that these two girls were rather pretty. He figured Xiao Liu’s luck wasn’t too bad—saving two such girls. Who knew if he’d seize the opportunity himself? But of course, that depended on him making it through this ordeal.
Everyone waited anxiously outside the emergency room, while Qin Xuan finally found out that these girls were indeed freshmen from the medical school, apparently in the same class as Wang Xiang.
Still, neither Qin Xuan nor Zhao Jun mentioned what Wang Xiang had done behind the scenes. After all, the girls were still overwhelmed with gratitude, and it wasn’t the right time to tell them.
Ding!
Half an hour later, the red light above the emergency room finally switched to green, and everyone waiting outside breathed a collective sigh of relief.
A doctor came out. “He’s out of danger for now. It’s a miracle, really—hit by a car and barely injured. Just a broken rib, and surgery should take care of it.”
“Haha, of course! After all, Xiao Liu is one of my men!” Zhao Jun let out a sigh of relief, then grinned proudly. “Xiao Qin, it’s all fine here now. As for you two, go on back for now. Once he’s out of surgery, we can talk about the rest. You still have military training this afternoon—don’t even think about using this as an excuse to get out of it!”
At that, the two girls grew embarrassed. They had never intended to skip military training, but with Zhao Jun saying so, they felt awkward about staying any longer.
