Chapter 26: Lu Siye: Is My Wife Jealous?
She made the panacea? She thanked us for taking care of her Yan?
Every word hit them like a thunderclap. In short, they could not think of a better word than "impressive" to describe their Madam. However, it was a perfect match for their Master Lu. Indeed, anyone who could catch Master Lu’s eye was destined to be extraordinary.
Lu Siyan: "..." He hadn't known that at first either.
"Madam is too kind. Master Lu gave us a new lease on life," Chuyang said with a solemn attitude.
"That's right!" the others echoed in agreement.
Lu Siyan’s hand, resting on Chu Wanning’s waist, tightened slightly, and his demeanor softened. "Aren't you hungry? Let’s go eat."
Everyone except Lu Bei: "..." Is this really our Master Lu?
Lu Bei raised an eyebrow, the most composed of them all, as he had been a witness from the very beginning.
When Lu Siyan turned back to his men, he resumed his usual cold detachment. "You've met and been introduced; now go back to your duties."
"Yes, Master Lu!"
The group hurried out of the villa, though they were itching to watch their master dine with his wife. Mengxia lingered for a moment, but just as she turned, she caught a cold, sharp gaze from Chu Wanning. Chuyang, whether intentionally or not, stepped in to block her view and ushered her out of the villa.
"Mengxia, the Madam and Master Lu are a perfect match, aren't they?" As the most skilled and eldest of the group, Chuyang wouldn't watch Mengxia make a mistake. He was certain that the Madam’s combat skills were superior to his own; he wasn't worried about her getting hurt, but rather about Mengxia. They had been training and going on missions together for so long that he didn't want to lose his partner. Given how much Master Lu valued his wife, if Mengxia dared to do anything, she would certainly be expelled from the Flying Dragon unit.
"Yes, they are a perfect match. Don't worry, Chuyang, I won't do anything. There’s an overseas mission coming up, and I’m applying for it," Mengxia said calmly.
Chuyang wasn't surprised by her decision. None of them in Flying Dragon should be preoccupied with personal attachments; they should have known this from the moment they joined. He understood that love could be uncontrollable—Master Lu was so outstanding that anyone could fall for him—but it was for the best that Mengxia had made this choice.
"Good! Leave tomorrow for Country M!"
"Yes!" Mengxia replied decisively.
From the moment she locked eyes with Chu Wanning, Mengxia knew that this woman was not to be trifled with.
There was no fear of betrayal within Flying Dragon. Once they dispersed, no one—except for Lu Siyan and Chuyang—would know where the others were or what they were doing. Every person’s mission was handled through a single-line contact, a double-layered insurance. Such a full-scale assembly as today was rare. Even if Chuyang didn't 100% trust Mengxia’s decision, he wouldn't show it. If she ever did anything out of line, he would have to handle her himself. That, too, was part of their required training.
Inside the villa, only Chu Wanning and Lu Siyan remained. She picked up a custard bun and popped it into her mouth, feeling a bit jealous. "Does Mengxia like you?"
Though phrased as a question, her tone was certain.
Lu Siyan was taken aback. He honestly didn't know; no one would ever bring such things up in front of him. Chu Wanning, who had been observing his expression, realized he was genuinely surprised.
"You didn't know?"
Lu Siyan nodded.
"Sigh, you really are a butterfly-attracting flower. Are you saying I should lock you up at home? Hmm?" Chu Wanning bit into the bun fiercely, her cheeks puffed out, looking incredibly adorable.
Seeing this, Lu Siyan couldn't help but laugh. "Is my wife jealous? I’m so happy!"
Chu Wanning glared at him indignantly. She was furious, and he was happy? Could this man be punched?
"Don't be angry. Chuyang will have Mengxia go abroad for a mission tomorrow; she won't be back for a while, and I won't let her appear before you again. If there’s a situation where I must see her, I’ll bring you with me, okay?" Lu Siyan explained, brimming with joy.
Chu Wanning knew when to stop. This man was no ordinary person—he was Lu Siyan’s capable subordinate. No matter how headstrong she was, she understood the stakes; she couldn't just drive people away. Besides, before she came along, the woman hadn't done anything inappropriate and had completed many missions.
"Fine! Are you heading to the company?"
"Yes, there are some things to handle." For example, the bankruptcy of the Qian family.
"Alright. I have things to do too, but I’ll stay at home. I’ll go pick up Qingbao this afternoon." If she didn't go get the little bun soon, he would probably protest! She never saw him in the mornings; though she hadn't been in this house long, she hadn't woken up early once—though that was entirely Lu Siyan’s fault. He never let her go at night. Thinking of that, she decided she needed to go to the pharmacy and whip up some pills to build up his strength!
The day Lu Siyan eventually found out what he had been taking, Chu Wanning was not surprised that she couldn't get out of bed for three days—the man had insisted on verifying the results. But that is a story for another time.
After Lu Siyan left, Chu Wanning still wanted to learn more about the Lu family. She had intended to ask Lu Bei, but he was always with Lu Siyan, making him hard to catch. Just then, the butler, Lu Feng, walked over.
"Madam, would you like some fruit? Master Lu had it flown in specifically; it’s very fresh."
*Ding!*
And here came the person she needed!
"Ah Yan bought it specifically? I’ll have some. But Uncle Lu, there are some things I’d like to learn from you. Do you have a moment?" Chu Wanning asked, her eyes brightening.
Lu Feng wasn't sure what she wanted to ask, but whatever it was, he would have to answer. He replied immediately, "I have time, Madam. Please, go ahead!"
"I want to know about the Lu family."
Lu Feng understood; she wanted to know more about the old family estate.
"Can you not tell me?"
"I can, Madam!" Lu Feng, who had been momentarily distracted, quickly replied.
"Then sit down and tell me slowly."
For the next hour or more, Lu Feng recounted the people and events of the Lu family over the past hundred years. Chu Wanning felt she had found the right person! But by the time she finished listening, she was grinding her teeth in anger.
She hadn't expected that Lu Siyan had suffered so much injustice as a child, and that after he grew up, the assassination attempts had been constant. There was even a two-year period where no one knew where he had gone or what he had done. But after he returned, he had a conversation with Elder Lu, officially took charge of the Lu Group, established the Kyoto training base, and formed the Flying Dragon unit.
In just a few short years, the Lu Group had vaulted to become one of the top elite families in China, and Lu Siyan had become one of the wealthiest people in the world—though he simply didn't care for the title. The Flying Dragon unit had also become increasingly valued, helping the country complete many missions with extremely high risks and levels of difficulty. A few times, Lu Siyan had even led the teams himself.
Naturally, those who had bullied him when he was young had moved from the shadows to the light—or rather, they were forced to act from the dark—such as in the case of the abandoned chemical plant. They had grown increasingly rampant recently because the Elder intended to hand over the entire Lu family inheritance to Lu Siyan—wealth that far exceeded the Lu Group—and some were inevitably harboring resentment.
Chu Wanning asked about the whereabouts of the three people brought back last night, grabbed some items, and headed straight there. She ran into Chuyang just as he was coming out of the dungeon.
