Chapter 21: Chu Wanning: Has he taken on a bit too much?
"Master Lu, the young master has gone missing!" Lu Bei reported anxiously. "I have already notified Lu Dong, Lu Xi, and Lu Zhong to conduct a city-wide search."
"Understood. Tell me the details," Lu Siyan said, his fists clenched tightly, his aura surging with murderous intent.
"I was waiting at the school gate as usual, but after ten minutes had passed without seeing him, I went to ask his teacher. The teacher said the young master had been in line to leave school before class ended. But I have been guarding the gate the entire time; it is impossible for him to have left without me seeing him. I have already searched the surrounding area, but I found no trace of him," Lu Bei stated truthfully.
"Come back first!" Chu Wanning suddenly interjected. "Husband, don't worry."
With that, she went to find the box her Seventh Master had given her. Sure enough, her three copper coins were inside, and she quickly tucked them into her pocket.
"Wait for me for a moment, husband."
She ran back to the bedroom. She felt a pang of regret for not studying more diligently under her Seventh Master, knowing only the basics, but she hoped she could determine the direction this time. She was truly desperate.
Once she cast the coins, they pointed toward the northeast. Armed with this information, she scrambled back downstairs.
"A-Yan, tell them to focus the search in the northeast, specifically on abandoned areas like factories."
"Understood!" Lu Siyan did not hesitate and immediately issued the order: "Everyone, search for abandoned factories in the northeast! Lu Bei, head there directly!"
Chu Wanning had expected him to question her, but the fact that he trusted her so implicitly moved her deeply. However, now was not the time for sentiment.
"We are going too!" Chu Wanning said, grabbing her bag and pulling Lu Siyan outside.
Lu Siyan took Chu Wanning on a high-speed drive; their driving skills were evenly matched. Meanwhile, Lu Bei and the others, having received their instructions, were engaging in their own version of speed and passion.
Chu Wanning pulled out her laptop and pulled up the surveillance footage of the area. On the edge of a blind spot near the school gate, she spotted the candies that Qingbao loved.
He had definitely been taken. If the situation hadn't been critical, Qingbao would never have let a single candy drop. The little bun was quite clever.
Chu Wanning quickly accessed more surveillance, tracking vehicles heading northeast. She finally locked onto a suspicious car; a check of the license plate revealed it was cloned, confirming it was almost certainly the right vehicle.
Following the direction the car had traveled, she continued to pull up footage until the car stopped at a chemical plant in the northeastern suburbs.
"A-Yan, tell them he’s at the abandoned chemical plant! Tell them not to make any rash moves!"
"Copy that, Madam!"
"Copy that, Madam!"
...
"Huh?" Chu Wanning turned to look at Lu Siyan, who was focused on driving.
"All Lu family vehicles have their own communication system. I turned it on before we got in," Lu Siyan explained.
Chu Wanning patted her chest, relieved she hadn't said anything embarrassing.
Lu Siyan glanced at her and added, "It’s only turned on during special circumstances. It’s off now."
"Good. I'll continue; you focus on driving."
Chu Wanning pulled up the terrain map of the abandoned chemical plant to prepare for the rescue.
"A-Yan, the owner of this chemical plant is surnamed Qian. Is he an enemy of yours?" Chu Wanning asked.
"Qian Chengzhi?" Lu Siyan’s question was more of a confirmation.
"Yes, who is he?" Chu Wanning asked without looking up.
"Lu Xifeng’s husband. Lu Xifeng is my father’s half-sister."
"Damn, Lu Siyan, is this how you wealthy families always fight? Lu Siqing is only five years old. Isn't he carrying too much?" Chu Wanning asked, conveniently ignoring the fact that her own deadbeat father had stolen her shares and occupied the Chu family business.
"Wife, you don't need to care about anyone else. Do whatever you want; your husband is here, okay?" Lu Siyan drove with one hand while holding Chu Wanning’s hand with the other.
"Okay, let's talk about it when we get back. Let's find Qingbao first!"
Chu Wanning realized how ridiculous her previous questioning had been. How could the Lu family ever be peaceful? She recalled the files she had read on Lu Siyan, which mentioned his parents had gone missing—or perhaps had disappeared on purpose—otherwise, Qingbao wouldn't exist.
Lu Siyan had grown up among wolves and tigers; without the skills of the "King of Hell," he probably would have met his maker long ago.
Chu Wanning felt a pang of sympathy for Lu Siyan; the boy had suffered so much. She was luckier; she had been free and easy growing up, and her masters, while strict, had loved her dearly. She just didn't know who her own parents were.
And this body of hers!
Thinking of this, she remembered her deadbeat father, stepmother, and stepsister. Fine, she wanted to take back what she said earlier. And hadn't her own mother gone missing too? Could they possibly be together?
Chu Wanning was startled by the thought. That was absolutely impossible! To say nothing else, their backgrounds were completely mismatched. While the Chu family was wealthy, they were not in the same league as the Lu family.
"Wife, we're here!" Lu Siyan announced.
Chu Wanning was pulled back to reality. "Okay!"
As soon as they stepped out of the car, Lu Bei, along with Lu Dong, Lu Xi, and Lu Zhong, were waiting.
"Master, the entire chemical plant is surrounded. We’ve confirmed the young master is in Warehouse No. 2. Shall we proceed?" Lu Bei stepped forward to explain the situation. "Also, there are about ten people inside the warehouse, and our snipers have them locked on."
"We haven't received a single phone call. Why do you think they kidnapped Qingbao?" Lu Siyan stared at the chemical plant, as if talking to himself.
Chu Wanning squeezed his hand. "Your life."
Those present suddenly realized the truth.
"Master Lu, it's that same group again. This place belongs to Qian Chengzhi. They think they’re being clever, planning to shift the blame later by saying, 'Who would commit a crime on their own property?'" Lu Bei said indignantly, wishing he could kill them right now.
He had completely lost his usual composure. He had helped raise Lu Siqing, and he was deeply attached to the boy. Time and again, those people were dancing on the edge of death.
Everyone present knew who those people were—everyone except Chu Wanning.
Chu Wanning made a mental note. Very well! Bullying her husband and her little bun? If she didn't take revenge, she wouldn't be the Great Demon King.
Indeed, the only thing her masters ever agreed on was that she was a Great Demon King—vengeful and always paying back double.
When she got back, she would have to pry some information out of Lu Bei. Lu Siyan hadn't told her anything yet, likely out of concern, so she would just have to handle things on her own.
"I’m going in! Who is coming with me?" Chu Wanning’s tone was firm and brooked no argument.
Lu Siyan naturally forbade it. Since they had already guessed it was about his life, there was no way he would let Chu Wanning go.
"Wanning, be good. I’ll go; you wait here for me, okay?" Lu Siyan coaxed gently.
"There’s no time! Who knows what they’ll do to Qingbao? Either I go alone, or you go with me! I’m counting to three!" Chu Wanning said as she reached for her hidden weapons.
When she reached three, everyone spoke up at once.
