Chapter One Hundred: Director Lu, of Immortal Caliber
Shen Guodong was feeling thoroughly frustrated! A woman of Zhou Meiniang’s caliber was the kind any man would long to possess. It was like having a delicious dish placed right in front of you. Just as you’re about to pick up your chopsticks, someone snatches the dish away—though it remains in your house, won’t run off, still, you can’t help but feel annoyed. That’s inevitable; there’s hardly any need to elaborate. At this moment, his mood was already laid bare.
Shen Guodong’s face was clouded with gloom; he wished he could beat the one who knocked at the door to death. He quickly opened it.
A fierce, intimidating face greeted him—a conspicuously bald head. It was none other than Bald Brother!
“Brother Shen,” Bald Brother called out cheerfully.
As the saying goes, one doesn’t hit a smiling man. Shen Guodong couldn’t say much, so he just eyed Bald Brother, a little maliciously, and said, “Bald Brother, what is it? You could’ve come earlier or later, but you had to pick this moment!”
Bald Brother was no stranger to such situations. Seeing Shen Guodong’s petty, wronged expression and then catching sight of Zhou Meiniang sitting demurely inside, he immediately understood. Well, it made sense—one man and one woman alone in a room, and he knew Zhou Meiniang wasn’t Shen Guodong’s wife, but a lover. Facing such a beautiful woman, Shen Guodong’s inability to restrain himself was only natural. That was beyond question!
He knew he’d spoiled Shen Guodong’s luck, and felt somewhat embarrassed. “Maybe I should come back later?”
Normally, Shen Guodong wouldn’t have minded, but recently, Zhou Meiniang’s relatives had come by, thwarting his plans. Now they were finally gone, and the atmosphere was just right; if he missed this chance, who knew when another would come? That was certain. In this fleeting moment, words couldn’t describe his mood. Hearing Bald Brother’s suggestion, Shen Guodong replied irritably, “Forget it, whatever you have to say, come in now.”
“Is that all right? Won’t I be disturbing you?” Bald Brother asked.
Shen Guodong rolled his eyes and answered sourly, “You’ve already disturbed us, so don’t pretend to be shy. Let’s talk first, then you can leave!”
“Alright,” Bald Brother answered awkwardly, for it was indeed uncomfortable to interrupt someone at such a time.
Once seated, Bald Brother got straight to the point. “Brother Shen, Factory Director Lu just came by! He’s waiting in my room now.”
“We were at the factory this morning, and now he’s here in the afternoon. Didn’t I tell him not to make it public? The other factory people are all here—him showing up openly, is he mad?” Shen Guodong glared, suspicion in his voice.
If he were real, exposure wouldn’t matter, but he was a fake. At such a critical moment, that guy showing up was nothing short of a joke. It annoyed him. If his cover was blown, it wouldn’t be a laughing matter.
Still, he couldn’t punish Director Lu. The thought made Shen Guodong even more irritable—there was no need to say more!
He rubbed his forehead, speechless. How did that guy reach his current position, being so impatient?
“Brother Shen, you misunderstand. He disguised himself. If he hadn’t introduced himself, I wouldn’t have recognized him. He mainly came to deliver money!” Bald Brother explained.
Shen Guodong frowned, “Deliver money?”
“Yes, for the reform and shareholding. He’s afraid you’ll change your mind, so he brought cash. I’m here to let you know. He wanted to meet you, but was afraid he’d disturb your rest, so I gave him a receipt as proof,” Bald Brother continued. It was unexpected; Shen Guodong hadn’t anticipated Director Lu would be so easily tricked!
Didn’t he have any doubts? Anyone investing money should verify things first, but this behavior was truly surprising.
“How much did Director Lu give?” Shen Guodong asked.
Having only half a day, he didn’t expect much, assuming the sum wouldn’t be large.
“Thirty thousand!” Bald Brother replied. “Director Lu said it was all he could gather for now, but he’ll bring more later. As for dividends, he left it up to you!”
“He trusts me that much?” Shen Guodong hadn’t expected it. Thirty thousand given just like that, even though Director Lu’s salary wasn’t high, he was an insider—a factory director—with plenty of perks. Even without taking bribes, his status made borrowing money easy. Of course, as the saying goes, all crows are black; at Director Lu’s level, how could he not profit from his position?
So Shen Guodong believed the man could produce much more money—inevitably so. In this situation, it was a great benefit!
Shen Guodong’s mood improved.
“He gives you money, you take it; no matter how much, just accept it! Only then does it fit our identities,” Shen Guodong groaned.
His plan had worked. Director Lu now fully believed in his identity, deeply and without doubt; otherwise, he would never have made such a choice.
Even thirty thousand was no trivial sum for most; for Director Lu, it would take years to earn that much.
So he couldn’t have handed it over lightly, which was certain. Shen Guodong was thoroughly pleased with this, and a smile appeared on his face as he looked at the man before him.
From the moment Director Lu handed over the money, he was on Shen Guodong’s side. Otherwise, he’d never have done it.
Even if things went awry, with Director Lu’s money involved, he would surely help.
Shen Guodong’s mind was finally at ease. This matter would not see any further twists; he could calmly pursue his next plan, and that would be enough.
No more worries.
