Chapter Sixty-Four: Promise
Zhou Meiniang’s breathing grew especially heavy. Shen Guodong was hardly faring any better; as a man, faced with such a stunning beauty, few could restrain themselves. It was inevitable.
Zhou Meiniang’s beauty needed no words. Her delicate face seemed almost otherworldly, as if she were born to captivate men. Her figure was equally extraordinary, alluring by nature. Had she lived in ancient times, Shen Guodong believed she would rival the likes of Imperial Consort Yang or the infamous Su Daji, women whose beauty brought ruin to kingdoms.
“Is it okay?” Shen Guodong could hardly bear it. His body felt on the verge of explosion, and he lowered his head to whisper softly by Zhou Meiniang’s ear, his hands never ceasing their movement.
Zhou Meiniang was lost in a haze, seemingly ready to succumb at any moment. Yet just as Shen Guodong was about to go further, she swiftly caught his hand, her whole being snapping back to clarity.
“My period just started…” Zhou Meiniang quickly pushed Shen Guodong away, blushing with embarrassment.
Shen Guodong was baffled. By rights, Zhou Meiniang shouldn’t be rejecting him—everything had seemed to fall into place. But now she revealed the key problem, and his expression drooped; all his vigor drained away. Her period truly was every man’s nemesis.
At least Shen Guodong was not fond of such things.
“When did it start?” he asked, unwilling to give up.
Zhou Meiniang couldn’t help but laugh. “Just today. If you’d come yesterday, it would’ve been fine.”
Shen Guodong sighed. Faced with such a situation, who could be cheerful?
Seeing his disappointment, Zhou Meiniang said with irritation, “What’s wrong with you? I’m not going anywhere. Sooner or later, I’ll be yours. Why act like a child who can’t get his favorite toy and wears his emotions on his face?”
In truth, Zhou Meiniang felt a bit pleased. The more Shen Guodong behaved this way, the more it proved his affection for her. Deep down, she harbored a small, secret joy. What woman doesn’t like to see her beloved lose himself over her?
Although Shen Guodong was about to explode with frustration, there was nothing he could do. Zhou Meiniang’s period had arrived at the most inopportune moment.
But Zhou Meiniang glanced at Shen Guodong’s unhappy face and couldn’t help but laugh, lips pressed together. “Silly, just because my period started doesn’t mean you have no way to solve it!”
Though Zhou Meiniang had never experienced intimacy, some women are born with natural allure; in this realm, she needed no guidance and could be called a master without a teacher.
The scene that followed seemed to send Shen Guodong soaring. In his previous life, as a company executive, he’d enjoyed every kind of service imaginable—from rough roadside massage parlors in his startup days to the high-end clubs later on. Few services had ever earned his praise.
But now, every pore of his body seemed to open in delight. He had to admit, Zhou Meiniang truly was a natural in this regard.
“Where did you learn this?” Shen Guodong asked curiously.
Zhou Meiniang lifted her head, gave him an annoyed glance, and mumbled, “Hmph… who would I learn from? This is my first time. I’ve just read a few things in novels—everyone does!”
Shen Guodong wanted to say more, but soon he was utterly lost in her gentle embrace, unable to extricate himself. His face was suffused with an indescribable bliss.
Who knew how much time passed?
Shen Guodong’s entire body relaxed, his pores opening as if he might faint.
Gulp.
Zhou Meiniang, all charm and seduction, quickly rose, her cheeks flushed as she went to tidy up. For her, today marked a crucial step forward. Her innate martial arts found a new outlet.
Watching her retreating figure, Shen Guodong couldn’t help but marvel—such a woman, left in Wang Weihua’s care, was a tragic waste of beauty. Fortunately, that man was impotent, so fate had favored Shen Guodong instead.
Men often have a fixation on virgins; Shen Guodong was no exception. Learning that Zhou Meiniang was untouched filled him with joy, otherwise he would have harbored some lingering unease.
Such feelings were inevitable.
Together, they tidied up the house, and it was already past five in the afternoon. Shen Guodong glanced at the time. Normally, he should be heading home—Liu Yueyu would surely have prepared dinner and be waiting—but Zhou Meiniang’s affairs weren’t settled, and he couldn’t simply abandon her and leave alone. That would be unkind.
He could only apologize to Liu Yueyu. Thinking of it, Shen Guodong realized he needed to manage his time better, or sooner or later trouble would arise. Sometimes, having several women was not necessarily a blessing.
That was beyond doubt, and at this moment, Shen Guodong’s face showed some helplessness.
“Shall we go buy some appliances now?” Shen Guodong offered.
Zhou Meiniang was considerate. “Why not wait until tomorrow? It’s late, I can make do for one night. Otherwise, if you go home too late, your wife will worry, and you won’t be able to explain.”
With such a woman by his side, what more could he wish for?
By common logic, mistresses always seek to climb higher, yet Zhou Meiniang seemed content with her current role—something Shen Guodong had never imagined.
Feeling guilty, he pulled her into his arms and kissed her smooth forehead. “Sorry.”
“Oh, you don’t need to say that! I was an accident to begin with. It’s already amazing that you accept me—without you, I might be hosting my own wedding feast by now! I’m not the sort to push for more, I’m very satisfied with things as they are,” Zhou Meiniang replied.
Hearing this, Shen Guodong nodded, then mused, “I’m glad you feel that way. I will give you a future!”
Even if he couldn’t accompany her, he would make sure someone did. But such promises were premature; at least until his career achieved something. Only then would it be possible.
Zhou Meiniang agreed with a smile.
Some things need not be spoken.
Both understood, wordlessly, what was in their hearts.
