Chapter Three: The Convenient Girlfriend
“I thought I was strong, but it turns out I’m just a big ant among ants,” Yang Qi said with a bitter smile.
Putting aside his doubts, Yang Qi calmed his mind and began practicing according to the records of the Haotian Technique. This was his first time cultivating; having never practiced before, he had no special power within him. What he needed now was to quickly generate primordial energy inside his body, for only warriors who possessed this energy could truly be called warriors.
As Yang Qi circulated the heart method, everything around him seemed to freeze—no sound, no movement, an eerie silence. He could even feel his pores opening in an instant with each breath, allowing a peculiar force to flow into his body.
“Is this the primordial energy of heaven and earth?” Yang Qi thought to himself as he felt the warm current inside him.
Guided by his will, the warm current flowed through his meridians, circulating a full cycle before returning to his dantian, leaving behind a trace of pure primordial energy.
“Is this success?” Yang Qi was stunned as he sensed the energy in his dantian.
He had succeeded in generating primordial energy on his very first attempt. Even Haoyang had taken several days to awaken this energy, not counting the time spent strengthening his body beforehand.
“Could I be a genius?” Yang Qi thought. Cultivators who could awaken primordial energy on their first try were rare even on the Tianwu Continent.
Seizing the momentum, Yang Qi continued cultivating with ease, drawing on his initial experience. Over an hour passed swiftly in cultivation.
Suddenly, his dantian trembled slightly, and in the next moment, the surrounding primordial energy surged rapidly into his body. Anyone watching would have been amazed to see Yang Qi at the center of an invisible vortex.
“Four-star Martial Disciple,” Yang Qi muttered in disbelief as he opened his eyes.
In just over an hour, he had broken through from a three-star to a four-star Martial Disciple, which even surprised himself. Such rapid advancement was astonishing.
“There’s nothing wrong with my cultivation method, but this speed—this growth is just too fast,” Yang Qi frowned.
If the warriors of the Tianwu Continent heard that he was worried about cultivating too quickly, many would be infuriated.
Though confident his body was fine, Yang Qi dared not continue cultivating recklessly. He decided to observe his condition first, as rapid advancement was not necessarily a good thing.
Rising, Yang Qi headed toward the dormitory. Passing by the lotus pond, he was immediately drawn to a white BMW parked by the roadside. The car itself was nothing unusual, but a massive heart-shaped bouquet of roses on its hood caught his attention.
The car was parked near the girls’ dormitory, and Yang Qi instantly understood the owner’s intention. A sparse crowd of students had gathered nearby, and amidst them, a young man and woman were talking.
Glancing at the BMW, Yang Qi smiled bitterly to himself—it was how his own love had broken apart.
“Husband!” Suddenly, a sweet voice rang out from the crowd. In the next instant, a white figure darted forward and grabbed Yang Qi’s right arm.
“What’s going on?” Yang Qi was stunned.
Not only him—the onlookers were equally confused.
“Handsome guy, please help me,” a timid voice whispered in Yang Qi’s ear.
Only then did Yang Qi notice the girl holding his arm. With a fair, oval face, she wore a white long-sleeved T-shirt paired with tight black jeans. Her long, slender legs and proud figure marked her as an absolute beauty.
“Is he your boyfriend? How come I didn’t know?” A handsome young man in a white shirt approached, his expression darkening.
“Hou Lei, who do you think you are to me? Do I need to report my matters to you?” the girl said coldly.
A flash of anger crossed the handsome young man’s eyes as he turned his gaze to Yang Qi.
“Kid, you better think carefully—is he really your boyfriend?” the man said menacingly.
“You tell me,” Yang Qi shrugged, sensing the hostility.
The man’s eyes darkened with malice, then he spoke seriously. “Xin Jie, don’t think you can just find someone to pretend to be your boyfriend and I’ll give up. I won’t. I’m sincere about you.”
“Hou Lei, whether you believe it or not, he is my boyfriend. There’s no way there’s any possibility between you and me!” the girl replied coldly.
“Alright, alright, kid, you dare to meddle in my affairs!” Hou Lei sneered furiously, scanning Yang Qi with venom before driving the white BMW away in anger.
The crowd dispersed once the main players left, with a few boys casting envious glances at Yang Qi as they left. After all, every man hoped to have a radiant woman by his side.
“They’re gone now,” Yang Qi said quietly, watching the crowd thin.
“Thank you,” the girl said, withdrawing her hand. “My name is Tang Xinjie.”
“Yang Qi,” he introduced himself. “What was that all about? That Hou Lei seems alright—at least a rich second generation, right?”
“You don’t even know him?” Tang Xinjie looked at him in surprise, as if wondering if he was really from Earth.
“Is he famous?” Yang Qi scratched his nose; it was the first time he’d heard the name.
“Notorious, more like,” Tang Xinjie said with a hint of disgust. “That Hou Lei relies on his family’s money to play with female students. Many girls in our school have been victims.”
Yang Qi was momentarily stunned. He hadn’t expected Hou Lei to have such a bad reputation. No wonder Tang Xinjie had rejected him without hesitation.
“You’re so beautiful, of course many would pursue you,” Yang Qi smiled gently.
Tang Xinjie snorted. “Hmph. You guys guys really only care about appearances.”
Yang Qi gave a wry smile, about to defend himself when his gaze caught sight of an Audi slowly pulling up nearby. A familiar figure stepped out.
Startled, Yang Qi’s expression changed as the other person saw him too.
Luorong looked at Yang Qi with surprise, then a grim expression. “Yang Qi, I already told you clearly—we’ve broken up. Please stop bothering me!”
“Young man, take a look at yourself. How could Rongrong ever fall for you?” a tall man who had just gotten out of the car sneered dismissively.
Watching Luorong and the tall man, Yang Qi suddenly laughed. He realized the two were truly a perfect match. Without him saying anything, they immediately assumed an aloof superiority—a match made in heaven.
