Chapter Twenty-Eight: Turbulence
Chapter 28: A Stir
Yang Qi clearly did not wish to dwell on the matter, and Shen Yuxuan felt it best not to pry. The two of them headed toward the display cars.
"Little Yang, what price range are you looking at for a car?" Shen Yuxuan asked.
Hearing this, Yang Qi fell silent. He really didn't know much about cars; in the past, he hadn't even been able to consider buying a bicycle, let alone a car. He was only familiar with famous brands like BMW and Audi.
"Around a million, I suppose," Yang Qi said after a moment of reflection.
Originally, he had only intended to buy a basic vehicle for two or three hundred thousand, but the moment he saw Luo Rong and her companion, his calm heart had skipped a beat, and he immediately raised his budget to around a million.
"By the way, Sister Shen, let’s try to keep it low-key," Yang Qi added suddenly.
"Low-key?" Shen Yuxuan was taken aback and laughed. "Why are you trying to be so low-key at your age? Shouldn't you be aiming for something flashy?"
"Sister Shen, have you forgotten what we do? If I’m too flashy, I’m afraid it will attract unnecessary trouble," Yang Qi said with a smile.
Beyond that, the more important reason Yang Qi chose a low-key car was the many secrets he held. Choosing a high-profile vehicle would simply be asking for trouble.
Having experienced the incident with the robbers, Shen Yuxuan nodded in deep agreement. The robbers had since been apprehended, and through her own channels, she had learned a bit about their statements. To her, a few million in jade wasn't much, but it was enough to make those six men risk everything—even leading to the death of A-Biao. If she had been more careful, perhaps that tragedy could have been avoided.
"If that’s the case, I have a car to recommend. It’ll make sure people mistake a nouveau riche like you for a bumpkin!" Shen Yuxuan smiled and led Yang Qi to a car. "The Volkswagen Phaeton. Most people won’t be able to tell what it is at all!"
Yang Qi’s eyes lit up as he looked at the car. He had heard of the Volkswagen brand; it was generally associated with cars in the two-to-three-hundred-thousand range, making it a very common brand that didn't stand out.
"This lady certainly knows her cars. The Volkswagen Phaeton—understated yet luxurious. It is truly the best choice for low-key luxury," the beautiful sales consultant chimed in.
"It is indeed quite nice." Yang Qi nodded, feeling very satisfied with the car. "Can I take it for a test drive?"
"Of course." The saleswoman nodded and led them toward the test track.
All 4S dealerships have their own dedicated test tracks to accommodate customers, as a car is a significant expense for most people; no one makes a purchase decision lightly unless they are truly satisfied.
Yang Qi had obtained his license during his junior year of college. Although he lacked real-world driving experience, he remembered the basics, and his martial arts training had improved his coordination far beyond what it once was. After a moment of initial stiffness, he quickly became proficient, driving as if he were a seasoned veteran.
"I didn't expect your driving skills to be so good," Shen Yuxuan said, watching him with surprise.
In reality, most college students who get their licenses rarely have much experience and tend to be clumsy behind the wheel. Such "novice drivers" are often avoided just as much as "female drivers" are stereotyped to be.
"I only drove for a few days when I was learning, but perhaps because of my martial arts training, my hand-eye coordination is better, so I adapted quickly," Yang Qi said with a smile.
Shen Yuxuan nodded slightly. She had seen Yang Qi’s skills with her own eyes—he was far beyond someone like the retired soldier A-Long. She estimated that even if all four of her bodyguards attacked him at once, they wouldn't be enough to handle him.
"Since you like this car, let's go with it. I’ll make a call to their manager," Shen Yuxuan said.
Yang Qi nodded. Since Shen Yuxuan knew the manager, the price would be lower. There was no need to refuse such a favor; despite having a few million to his name, parting with a million all at once still made his heart ache.
"Yang Qi, is it really you?" Just as Shen Yuxuan walked away to make the call, a familiar voice came from nearby. It was Luo Rong and her companion, who had also entered the test track area.
The tall man's face darkened. "It’s you again, brat."
"Hey kid, go get me a glass of water," the tall man commanded coldly.
Yang Qi blinked, looking at the tall man with a blank expression.
"I'm talking to you! Do you want me to report you to your supervisor?" Seeing that Yang Qi made no move to leave, the tall man sneered. Finding a job wasn't easy for college students these days; he didn't believe for a second that this poor kid wouldn't be afraid.
"Idiot," Yang Qi said coolly, glancing at the man. The guy clearly mistook him for a dealership waiter.
"You... you... fine! If I don't report you, my name isn't Wang!" The tall man was furious. A lowly waiter daring to insult a customer to his face? If he didn't file a complaint, the kid would really think he was someone important!
"Little Yang, what's going on?" At that moment, Shen Yuxuan walked back over.
Seeing Shen Yuxuan, the tall man’s eyes lit up, though he quickly regained his composure. He looked at Yang Qi and sneered, "Miss, you've come at the right time. I asked this colleague of yours to get me a glass of water, and he actually insulted me. Is this how your staff treats customers?"
"Staff?" Shen Yuxuan paused, her expression darkening.
"Kid, let's see how you handle this now that you've offended me!" The tall man chuckled inwardly. A college student who had just started working would surely lose his job if reported.
"For the sake of this lady, if you apologize to me, I’ll let it slide," the tall man said arrogantly, glancing at Yang Qi.
"Little Yang, do you know him?" Shen Yuxuan asked.
"Just a self-righteous idiot," Yang Qi replied, curling his lip.
Shen Yuxuan nodded. The tall man was indeed an idiot; acting entirely on his own assumptions without checking the facts—what else could you call such a person?
"You... you... I'm going to report you to your manager!" The tall man’s face turned livid as he watched the two of them banter.
"I wonder what the gentleman wishes to report to me?" A thick voice interrupted. A somewhat stout, middle-aged man walked over.
"I want to report these two staff members! They are completely rude and even insulted me," the tall man said coldly, pointing at Yang Qi and Shen Yuxuan.
*Let's see what you do now,* the tall man thought. *If that beauty begs me, I might let them go, but Yang Qi, I’m going to ruin you!*
"I’m sorry, sir," the middle-aged man said calmly. "These two are not our staff; they are our customers, just like you. We cannot intervene in your private grievances."
