Chapter 20: The Talkative Sixth Brother, A Doting Sister-Complex
"A young lady like you, drinking alcohol?"
The bartender approached, and Gu Ruohui pushed a glass of orange juice toward Nan Xing. "Just drink this. It whitens the skin, fights oxidation, and boosts your immune system."
Nan Xing was speechless. He certainly knew a lot. But if she wasn't supposed to drink, why bring her to a bar in the first place? Was it just so she could watch him drink? Nan Xing swallowed hard and downed half the glass in one go.
"By the way, your Sixth Brother is coming to Beixin to film soon. You might have a chance to meet him."
Sixth Brother was coming to Beixin? Nan Xing swirled her orange juice. "When?"
Thinking about it, she hadn't met any of her six brothers yet. She wondered if he was as much of a "little sister-obsessed" brother as he seemed over the phone. She was genuinely looking forward to it.
"In the next couple of days, I suppose. Want to see a handsome photo of him to get familiar?" Gu Ruohui chuckled, scrolling through his album for a long time before finding an old photograph. "Here, this is your Sixth Brother."
Nan Xing looked over. In the photo, the man had cool, fair skin and delicate, refined features. He was standing in a corridor outside an emergency room, one hand tucked into the pocket of his white coat, his expression stern and reserved, exuding an aura of ascetic beauty.
A flash of confusion crossed Nan Xing's eyes. "Isn't Sixth Brother a celebrity? How come he..."
"That was a long time ago, before you, our little family treasure, came along," Gu Ruohui said, tilting his head back to finish his Manhattan, his voice rich and mellow.
"Then why did he switch careers to become a celebrity?"
Nan Xing didn't have his direct contact information; they only shared a family group chat. She often saw him popping up in the chat, and her assessment of him was simple: a chatterbox. If the Fifth Brother hadn't mentioned it today, she would never have known about this past of his.
Gu Ruohui smiled brightly, rubbing the white jade ring on his thumb. "You'll have to ask your Sixth Brother that yourself."
Nan Xing clicked her tongue. So, the Fifth Brother didn't know either?
Halfway through his drink, Gu Ruohui received a call. He tossed his car keys to Nan Xing, gave her a few gentle instructions, and hurried out of Meise.
Nan Xing didn't know what had happened, but seeing that the Fifth Brother didn't want to talk about it, she tactfully refrained from asking. Sitting alone in the corner without the Fifth Brother's "supervision," she let herself go and ordered a vodka on the rocks.
The strong liquor hit her throat like liquid fire—a sensation of ice and flame that was just as exhilarating as other pleasures.
While Nan Xing was distracted, she didn't notice a pair of sinister, predatory eyes watching her from the corner.
Ever since he offended Li Beitai at the Nan family residence, Zhang Biao had been grounded by his father, Zhang Jianfeng. Having just been released today, he had brought a group of sycophants to Meise to blow off steam. He had recognized Nan Xing the moment she entered the club. However, because she had been accompanied by a tall, lean man he didn't recognize—a man he assumed wasn't from around here—he had waited for the right moment, fearing a repeat of the incident with Li Beitai.
Seeing the man leave, Zhang Biao’s true colors immediately surfaced.
"Brothers, there's a girl over there. Looks like quite a character."
Seeing that the drink in Nan Xing's glass was almost finished, Zhang Biao gave a lewd smile and signaled to the men beside him. "Let's go. She's all alone. Let's go see what she's about."
Noticing Nan Xing sitting there by herself, the men rubbed their hands together and wove through the crowd to her table.
"Hey, sweetheart, do us a favor and have a drink with us?"
One of the men looked at her greedily. Although the young girl was dressed modestly and had an average appearance, she had curves in all the right places, which was exactly to his taste.
"Brother, if you don't have a mirror, surely you have a puddle of urine? Why don't you go take a look at yourself in that first?"
Under the influence of the alcohol, Nan Xing’s cheeks were flushed and her head felt dizzy, but that didn't dampen her disgust for the man standing before her.
"Oh, quite the spicy personality! Biao was right, she's got character!"
The remark ignited the man's competitive and possessive nature. He stepped forward, breathing heavily, and grabbed Nan Xing's arm. "I like your type. Have a drink with me, and if you treat me well, I'll give you everything I've got."
The surrounding men burst into raucous laughter. Zhang Biao, in particular, didn't forget to stir the pot, egging the man on to use force.
A foul stench of alcohol hit her, and Nan Xing gagged in disgust. Without a word, she slapped the man across his bloated face, then kicked him in his beer gut. "Screw you, you filthy asshole! If you come any closer, I'll kill you!"
The man was stunned for a few seconds. Realizing he had lost face in front of his friends, he steadied himself and grabbed Nan Xing by the collar. "You bitch, don't play hard to get. A girl coming to a place like this and acting like a pure, virtuous maiden—aren't you just here to fish for a sugar daddy to sell yourself?"
With that, he dragged her
