Li Shiyan took the report, smirked faintly as he glanced at her, then shifted his gaze to the document. The consultation room fell silent, the man quietened as well; the sharp, barbed exchanges ceased, leaving only the scent of disinfectant mixed with cold pine resin lingering at her nostrils.

Ning Yu’s anger flared quickly and dissipated just as fast, especially toward Li Shiyan.

She was annoyed, but she also knew that in this world, she owed him alone.

The man remained silent. His pristine white coat seemed to soften his otherwise sharp and formidable presence.

Ning Yu couldn’t help but steal a glance at him.

His nose was straight and prominent, his features deep and sharp, lips thin and tightly pressed, jawline firm and clean-cut. His phoenix-shaped eyes were fixed steadily on the paper report in his hands, brows knit with concentration.

It was as if, in his eyes, the entire world had shrunk to this single report.

His every movement and expression bore the added maturity of eight years, yet he looked even more heroic and masculine.

Ning Yu found herself unable to look away, thinking to herself that his face had grown increasingly handsome, if only one could overlook that mouth, which was as dangerous as a biological weapon.

“Miss Ning, watching your fiancé’s younger uncle like that doesn’t seem quite proper,” a voice interrupted.

She was caught staring just as someone tapped the edge of the desk. The man’s cold voice pulled her back to reality.

Ning Yu blushed slightly under his gaze. “I was waiting for you to give your diagnosis and advice.”

Only then did Li Shiyan shift his gaze from the report to her, his expression chilly. “You think you can do it yourself?”

Ning Yu: … If she could, what would you doctors be for?

He set down the report, not pressing her further, his tone indifferent: “It’s pretty much what we suspected—latex allergy. The wrong latex material was used during intercourse, and the contact was prolonged, which worsened the reaction.”

Ning Yu felt her face grow redder with his words. In contrast, he seemed detached, indifferent, his voice even and measured.

He glanced at her flushed cheeks, his eyes flickering briefly, then resumed his instructions: “The medication prescribed last time is correct; continue taking it. But I’ll prescribe two more tubes of ointment—apply three times a day to the affected area until the swelling subsides.”

“Noted.” Ning Yu accepted the report and medical record from his hand, embarrassed, and turned to leave.

Before she could step out, she heard the man’s slow, teasing voice: “Not taking the prescription slip? Planning to storm the pharmacy and snatch the medicine?”

Ning Yu’s cheeks burned even hotter; she lowered her head and walked back without a glance. “The prescription.”

Li Shiyan handed her the printed slip, eyeing her turtle-like retreat with a smirk. “Ambitious.”

Ning Yu took the prescription and tried to leave again, only to be stopped by his next words—

“My sentence isn’t finished yet.”

She took a deep breath, resigned, and turned back to face him. “Go ahead.”

“Why haven’t you come back for a follow-up?” Li Shiyan cut straight to the chase, his tone mocking. “Is it because you don’t trust my diagnosis, doubt my medical skills, or because you want to keep your distance from me for the sake of your fiancé, who’s cheated countless times?”

Ning Yu looked at him calmly. “I don’t distrust your diagnosis.”

He studied her for a moment, amused by her feeble excuse. Without pressing further, he suddenly asked, “Have you remembered all the medical advice?”

Ning Yu nodded.

He leaned back in his chair, looking up at her, fingers tapping the desk. “Repeat it.”

With a sigh, Ning Yu complied. “Take the medicine prescribed yesterday as directed. Two types of ointments, three times a day.”

He raised an eyebrow. “Continue.”

Her voice faltered and softened. “No intercourse until fully healed, and no latex materials used in the future.”

Her voice grew quieter, then louder again: “Now can I go?”

Li Shiyan’s tone was ambiguous. “You seem eager to see him.”

Ning Yu stuffed her things into her bag and made a swift escape.

After tidying herself up, Ning Yu finally headed to the urology ward. Just as she approached the ward door, she overheard voices inside.

The door wasn’t fully closed—whether by accident or design, she couldn’t tell.

Peeking inside, she saw the scene clearly.

Ning Yunyun sat beside the bed, leaning over Lin Haoyu, fingers playing with his hand, her other hand slipping beneath the covers.

Both were laughing joyfully, eyes glued to each other.

Ning Yu suddenly felt superfluous. She wasn’t angry; she felt no affection for Lin Haoyu, and Ning Yunyun was the one chasing after an unfaithful fiancé—so what did it matter to her?

Thinking of the call from Father Ning urging her to come, Ning Yu calmly knocked on the ward door.

The two inside were startled. Lin Haoyu looked up and saw Ning Yu standing there, immediately withdrawing his hand and pushing Ning Yunyun away.

Caught almost red-handed, he appeared flustered. “Xiaoyu, what are you doing here?”

Ning Yunyun, pushed aside, turned to see Ning Yu at the door, her face darkening. “Sister, didn’t Father ask you to come take care of Brother Haoyu? Why did you let me come first?”

Ning Yu stepped in with a faint smile. “Got held up. Haoyu, how are you feeling today?”

“Much better. Xiaoyu, don’t just stand there, sit down,” Lin Haoyu said, trying to explain. “Don’t misunderstand, Xiaoyu, Yunyun and I were just talking—I wasn’t paying attention just then, so don’t overthink it.”

“Haoyu—what are you saying?” Ning Yunyun teased him, smiling sweetly at Ning Yu. “You’re always understanding and generous, little sister. What happened the night before and just now with saving me—there’s always a reason. You won’t misunderstand. No need to worry.”

Ning Yu raised her eyelids slightly, feigning ignorance as she looked at Lin Haoyu. “No wonder you left in such a hurry the other night—it was to rescue sister.”

Lin Haoyu had thought Ning Yunyun was genuinely defending him, but hearing Ning Yu’s cold gaze, his heart sank. “No, Xiaoyu, listen to me. That night, Yunyun was really in danger…”

Ning Yu met his eyes, expression calm and unreadable. “I know.”

Lin Haoyu grew even more unsettled. He had always been the one pursuing Ning Yu; after their families met and arranged their engagement, she accepted him. Over the half-year they’d been engaged, Ning Yu had taken the initiative many times, showing warmth and care, with a gentle temperament—except for some sexual coldness. He believed she had feelings for him, just a reserved nature.

But Ning Yu’s impassive demeanor made him doubt whether she cared for him at all.

No, she must care; otherwise, why would she so steadfastly want to be engaged to him?

She was just introverted, he told himself.

“Xiaoyu, please don’t be mad...” Lin Haoyu pleaded.

Ning Yu sighed. “I’m not mad.”

“Haoyu, little sister said she’s not mad; you don’t need to worry,” Ning Yunyun chimed in, watching Lin Haoyu nervously explain to Ning Yu, her jealousy burning inside.

“Could you stop talking?” Lin Haoyu snapped at Ning Yunyun, irritated. He was sure Ning Yu was pretending not to care but was actually jealous.

He turned back to Ning Yu to continue explaining.

But Ning Yunyun, scolded, immediately burst into tears. “Haoyu... I didn’t mean to say the wrong thing. I just wanted to help explain!”

Usually Lin Haoyu would fall for that, but now his attention was on Ning Yu, and he was simply impatient.

Ning Yu leisurely peeled an apple, silent, watching Ning Yunyun cry coldly, curious how long she could keep it up.

The atmosphere in the ward was strange: Ning Yunyun chased after Lin Haoyu crying, Lin Haoyu anxiously explaining to Ning Yu, Ning Yu watching Ning Yunyun coldly.

At that moment, the ward door was knocked, followed by a man’s casual, mocking deep voice—

“Oh, crying and fussing—what a celebration. Planning to arrange a funeral for Lin Haoyu?”

The ward instantly fell silent.
