Volume One, Chapter Six: Witnessing the Fiancé and Sister Stealing
Just next door!
Even the slightest noise could be heard clearly.
Ning Yu’s scalp tingled instantly; unconsciously, her fingers clenched around his knuckles with increasing strength, only to be pulled firmly into his embrace.
She stumbled into his arms, her warm body pressing against his slightly cool chest. She instinctively wanted to cry out, but he swiftly covered her lips.
Face to face, Ning Yu was trapped in his arms. She struggled a couple of times, but the grip around her waist tightened even more.
The man’s chin rested against the hollow of her neck, close to her ear, his voice husky: “Go ahead and scream. Do you think they’ll hear you?”
Ning Yu took a deep breath, calming herself, then sat on his thigh, feeling restless as if sitting on pins and needles.
The voices next door grew louder, perhaps neither of them had intended to hide anything from the start:
“Brother Haoyu, your sister came to see you today? After you abandoned her yesterday to come see me, she didn’t make a fuss, right?”
“No, she didn’t notice at all.”
“And what about you, Brother Haoyu... yesterday, were you happy? You wouldn’t just stare at her whenever you see your sister, would you?”
“What nonsense? She’s so conservative and stiff. I’ve known her for so long; if I hug her, she struggles. How could she compare to you in being likable?”
“Really?”
“When have I ever lied to you?”
After a series of wet, smacking kisses, the two became increasingly unrestrained, their sounds clearly audible to almost everyone in the restroom.
“With a figure like yours, I can enjoy it for a whole year. Ning Yu’s figure is average, no comparison to you, and she’s not as understanding or sensible. Why bother sulking with her?”
“But after all, she’s engaged to you! Brother Haoyu...”
“You little temptress, thinking like that? Do you want me to die on you?”
What followed were even more indecent sounds and conversations.
Ning Yu frowned deeply, several times wanting to get up and leave, but the man behind her held her tightly.
She looked at him with a furrowed brow.
He merely raised an eyebrow, then slipped his hand inside her clothes.
The rough pads of his fingers caressed her waist.
It was like an electric shock.
Ning Yu clenched the sleeve of his white coat, glaring at him angrily.
He ignored her, his cold, indifferent gaze wandering over her like appraising a commodity.
Amid the intertwined breaths of men and women nearby, Li Shiyan’s actions became uncontrollable, his voice nearly a whisper in her ear:
“Average figure? He’s not worthy.”
Ning Yu was no longer surprised by his nonsense, but shocked by his boldness!
She began to feel flushed. The more she struggled, the more outrageous his actions became, so much so that Ning Yu felt intoxicated.
“Ah... Brother Haoyu... you’re amazing...”
Yet the entangled voices of Ning Yunyun and her fiancé pierced her eardrums relentlessly.
Waves of heat surged over her again and again.
Somehow, she had been pressed against the partition wall.
Ning Yu bit her lip hard to barely maintain a shred of rationality, looking at him with a nearly pleading gaze.
No.
At least not here.
Li Shiyan lowered his eyes, his gaze sweeping over her. The rough, slightly cool fingertip pressed against her lip, which was pale from biting. He leaned closer: “Let go.”
Ning Yu frowned, staring at him, but was forced to release her lip under his pressure.
His calloused fingertip traced her lips intermittently. His eyes were dark and burning.
Vague, yet full of suggestion.
Angrily, Ning Yu bit down on his fingertip.
The man’s gaze darkened further. He hooked her finger with his own, teasingly: “Bite softer.”
Ning Yu glared at him in fury!
Those words stunned her, and also struck fear into the couple nearby who were sneaking around.
Suddenly, the sounds ceased.
They must have sensed someone nearby.
If someone came to check, Ning Yu didn’t care about the engagement with the Lin family—she had no feelings for Lin Haoyu.
But the Ning family had already shackled her tightly; they cared, so Ning Yu had no choice but to care as well.
She gripped his sleeve tightly, looked up at him with a pleading gaze, shaking her head frantically.
No. They must not find out.
Li Shiyan looked at the woman before him—her delicate, beautiful face lacked color, her eyes filled with tears and pleading.
Like a wistful clematis, fragile and wilting with a single blink, a stark contrast to the woman who had just slapped him in the face.
He stared at her for a moment.
Until Ning Yu tugged at his sleeve again.
Only then did Li Shiyan whisper hoarsely: “Beg me.”
Ning Yu didn’t hesitate. She stood on tiptoe and whispered into his ear: “Doctor Li, I beg you.”
After she spoke, the hand around her waist loosened, and the man released his hold. But when he lowered his head to look at her, the emotions in his eyes were inscrutable.
She had spoken too decisively, and Li Shiyan immediately lost interest.
Artists tend to be proud, and Ning Yu, such a gifted painter, was naturally proud. He had spoiled her into recklessness in the past.
After their reunion, she was meek and calm, even dull, like an emotionless mannequin. She had lost not only her pride but every bit of sharpness she once had.
Only when she was angry did he see a glimpse of the old her.
But now, to avoid being discovered by Lin Haoyu, she was willing to lower her head and beg him.
That truly showed she cared about her fiancé.
Next door, Ning Yunyun and Lin Haoyu were already too scared to move.
Ning Yunyun bit her lip and clutched Lin Haoyu’s shirt, constantly hiding herself in his arms.
Lin Haoyu’s face had turned ashen from fear. Though Ning Yunyun couldn’t tell, listening to the male voice just now made him increasingly convinced it was his formidable uncle.
That thought sent a chill down his spine.
In the entire Lin family, only two people were truly terrifying: his septuagenarian grandfather and that uncle.
If his father found out about this, he might plead for mercy or play the victim, but he’d still face family punishment.
But if it was his uncle, breaking a leg wouldn’t be protected by anyone.
Just as Lin Haoyu was trembling in terror, the door to the next restroom clicked open and someone left.
The sound of running water followed, footsteps fading away.
Lin Haoyu felt as if he had come back to life.
He had been so frightened by the voice resembling Li Shiyan’s that he was completely out of sorts. Without hesitation, he pulled Ning Yunyun out of the restroom.
...
Li Shiyan returned to the emergency department for his shift. Near the end of lunch break, Cheng Xiuming passed by the window and stopped to say a few words:
“Doctor Li, even your buddies can’t get a reply when they invite you to eat in the cafeteria now?”
Li Shiyan’s mind was filled with the tearful, pleading eyes he had just seen. Irritated, he rolled up his sleeves, revealing his forearm: “Didn’t see it.”
As a brother of ten years, Cheng Xiuming wanted to tease him some more but quickly caught sight of red marks on Li Shiyan’s arm.
With quick reflexes, he pressed the mark: “What’s this? The untouchable high mountain flower finally decided to let loose?”
Li Shiyan raised his eyelids: “You’re very free?”
“Free? When is any day free in this hospital?” Cheng Xiuming replied grumpily, strolling in slowly: “I’m just passing by, came to get a good cup of tea to soothe my little soul that’s been running non-stop for over ten hours. Also... checking on my brother!”
“Get it yourself.” Li Shiyan clicked the mouse with his long, articulate fingers, not looking at him.
