Chapter 121: The Yang Siblings Rescue Their Mother at Peach Mountain (Part 1)
A happy and beautiful life is built upon the accumulation of countless little things. Fairy Yuyao never intended to spend an eternity with her husband, Yang Tianyou; she only wished to accompany the one she loved through his fleeting mortal life, and having done so, she had no regrets.
For this reason, whether it was Yang Tianyou or the Yang siblings, Fairy Yuyao never taught them the arts of immortality. Thus, they remained mortals.
"Mother, Mother, how could you?" The three Yang children, guided by Our Lady of the Golden Spirit, arrived at Mount Tao and beheld their suffering mother.
When Fairy Yuyao and Yang Tianyou first faced their ordeal, the Yang siblings felt a sudden, inexplicable panic, as if they were about to lose something precious. Realizing that something was wrong, Yang Jian rushed to his master, Zhao Gongming, begging to see his parents. Zhao Gongming, unaware of the situation, brought Yang Jian to Our Lady of the Golden Spirit. Meanwhile, Luo Xuan arrived with Yang Zhao.
"I shall take these three to where Fairy Yuyao is trapped; you two juniors should return," the Lady of the Golden Spirit said, stepping out of the meditation hall. The two men exchanged a look, seemingly understanding the gravity of the situation, and replied, "Sister, we shall take our leave."
"Children, my children," Fairy Yuyao cried out, overcome with emotion.
"Mother! Mother!" Yang Chan ran toward her, but hit a barrier.
"Child, do not come any closer!" Fairy Yuyao warned in terror.
"Mother, I miss you!" Yang Chan said, her eyes red, as she was supported by Yang Zhao and Yang Jian. This simple sentence spoke volumes of their hearts.
"Cultivate diligently, for only then can you save your mother," the Lady of the Golden Spirit urged.
"Children, I do not wish for you to rescue me; I only desire your safety," Fairy Yuyao pleaded.
"Do not worry, Mother, I will save you!" Yang Jian vowed, clenching his fists.
Yang Zhao was a disciple of Luo Xuan, who was born of solar essence and mastered fire-based arts. Luo Xuan, along with the Lady of the Golden Spirit and Zhao Gongming, had spent much effort determining the best path for the siblings. The study of the Five Elements, formations, alchemy, and close-quarters combat formed the core of their training.
The Spirit Sect invested heavily in their development. Eventually, as if fated, Yang Jian chose the Eight-Nine Arcane Arts for its versatility in combat and transformation. It was said that once mastered, one could roam the world at will. His master, Zhao Gongming, was a master of spells, and soon, the sect leader Tongtian bestowed upon Yang Jian the secret teachings, even inviting Wuzhiqi, a disciple of Daoist Duobao, to train alongside him. With a rival and a goal, Yang Jian’s strength grew rapidly.
Yang Zhao took a steady approach, mastering the arts of immortality while honing his swordsmanship to exorcise demons. Yang Chan took a more refined path, excelling in all manner of mystical arts, and Tongtian even "borrowed" the Lotus Lantern from Goddess Nüwa for her. Furthermore, Tongtian equipped the three with the Heaven, Earth, and Humanity Formation, requiring them to act in perfect unison to channel the primordial energies of heaven, earth, and mankind.
Twenty years passed—a blink of an eye for immortals, but a generation for mortals. The Yang siblings became legendary within the Spirit Sect, with the saying: "Better to provoke the Three Ladies than to disturb the Three Yangs."
Yang Jian, wielding his three-pointed, double-edged blade and riding Zhao Gongming’s black tiger, was brimming with confidence. Yang Zhao stood tall, surrounded by shimmering sword light, his youthful worries long gone. Yang Chan held the Lotus Lantern in one hand and a jade ruyi in the other. They were joyous, for they were about to reunite their family.
High in the Heavens, the Jade Emperor Haotian was well aware of the trio. He sent no assassins; after all, his nephews were talented, and that brought him a certain reflected glory.
"Why have you come?" the mountain god guarding Fairy Yuyao challenged them.
"Today is the day we reclaim our mother," Yang Zhao replied, now a true cultivator.
"If you wish to see her, you must get past me first!" the god growled.
"Then let us see if you have the ability to stop us!" Yang Chan declared. With a wave of her hand, the Lotus Lantern flared, and the god fell to the ground in a single stroke.
"Mother, we are here to save you!" They rushed past the fallen god toward the heart of Mount Tao.
"Children, you shouldn't have come," Fairy Yuyao sighed.
"Mother, how can you say that? Isn't a family reunion a blessing?" Yang Jian knelt, followed by his siblings.
"Children, you cannot defeat your uncle," she whispered.
"Halt! Who goes there, daring to defy the Heavenly Laws?" Marshal Tianpeng suddenly manifested his avatar above the mountain.
"It is you heavenly gods who tore our family apart! Taste my blade!" Yang Zhao roared, charging into the fray.
"Sister, protect Mother! I shall assist our brother!" Yang Jian took to the clouds, his halberd striking at the Marshal.
Marshal Tianpeng had been stuck at the early stage of the Great Luo Golden Immortal realm since his battle with Xingtian, a source of great frustration. The Yang siblings, hardened by twenty years of life-and-death combat, did not rely on pills or elixirs; they focused on digging deep into their own potential. Driven by hatred, they had reached the mid-stage of the Taiyi Mysterious Immortal realm, a testament to their extraordinary talent.
Though the Marshal was higher in cultivation, he was soon overwhelmed by the siblings' desperate, fearless assault. He dared not truly harm these disciples of the Spirit Sect—even the Emperor himself trod carefully around them.
"Fairy, save me! Help!" the Marshal cried out as he began to suffer wounds.
"Children, stop! Spare him!" Fairy Yuyao pleaded.
"I spare you today! Go tell that old man Haotian to wait for us to storm the High Heaven Palace!" Yang Jian spat.
"Is that so? Then let me see just how capable you truly are!" At that moment, the Jade Emperor’s carriage appeared upon the battlefield.
