Chapter Six: I Got Married

It turned out that Jiang Mengnan was mistaken.
Not long after Lu Yu went upstairs, a group of unfamiliar people arrived at the house.
To be precise, a group of unfamiliar women.
Just as she was curious about their origin, the leader spoke first: "Miss Jiang, please come with me to the makeup room."
“Me?” Jiang Mengnan wondered as she noticed rows of carts filled with women's clothing being brought in one after another.
Qin Jiu kindly explained, "Miss Jiang, the young master said that today's occasion is important, so he asked you to be carefully dressed up."
After hearing that and seeing the welcoming smiles of the women, Jiang Mengnan suddenly understood.
So this was what Lu Yu meant by “cooperating.”
Then, hearing Qin Jiu’s way of addressing Lu Yu, Jiang Mengnan instantly grasped his intention.
Fine, for thirty million yuan, she would play the role of a gentle and virtuous lady once more.
Jiang Mengnan resignedly stepped into the makeup room.
Surrounded as she was, she suddenly had an illusion.
It was as if she were a mediocre “product” that needed to be wrapped layer by layer before being pushed to the “market.”
And this “packaging” took an entire hour.
Watching the women’s constant praise, Jiang Mengnan knew the packaging effect on this “product” was quite good.
Wearing nude-colored high heels, Jiang Mengnan walked out of the makeup room with a ladylike gait.
She happened to meet Lu Yu just coming downstairs.
Their eyes met, and a flash of light passed through both of their gazes, vanishing in an instant.
Lu Yu had styled his hair simply and wore a minimalist light-colored shirt with the collar casually unbuttoned, exuding a hint of leisure.
Glancing at Jiang Mengnan’s dignified white dress, Lu Yu nodded casually, “Hmm, much more pleasing to the eye now.”
Jiang Mengnan smiled silently, inwardly cursing Lu Yu several times.
But in Lu Yu’s eyes, Jiang Mengnan looked serene and charming.
Especially the lovely curve of her peach-colored lips made him unconsciously glance again.
Realizing his own oddity, Lu Yu cleared his throat and said coldly, “Let’s go.”
Jiang Mengnan picked up her clutch and followed Lu Yu closely into the elevator, playfully sticking out her tongue at his back before quickly restoring her obedient ladylike expression just as he turned around.
Ten minutes later, the nanny car arrived at a small alley behind the Civil Affairs Bureau.
Considering Lu Yu’s identity, Jiang Mengnan and Qin Jiu entered the second floor of the bureau first.
After filling out the paperwork, Lu Yu arrived late.

After signing and taking photos, within five minutes, the marriage certificate was freshly issued.
Taking her own copy of the certificate, Lu Yu put on his hat and mask, fully disguised again, and left the bureau without looking back.
Her phone vibrated. Jiang Mengnan unlocked it to check.
Thirty million yuan had been deposited into her bank card.
Staring blankly at the incoming message, Jiang Mengnan suddenly felt a pang of melancholy.
Her eyes grew slightly moist.
“Miss Jiang, shall I see you off?” After sending off Lu Yu, Qin Jiu returned to the bureau, waiting for Jiang Mengnan’s instructions.
Sniffling, Jiang Mengnan tucked away the marriage certificate: “Please take me to the bank, thank you.”
At the main entrance of the bureau by the roadside, a limited-edition Maybach had been waiting for a long time.
There was no need to guess—it was Lu Yu’s.
Seated in the Maybach, Jiang Mengnan took out the marriage certificate again.
In the photo, Jiang Mengnan smiled appropriately.
As for Lu Yu, he still wore his usual cool expression, his gaze indifferent, showing no trace of joy.
Jiang Mengnan leaned closer to scrutinize, trying to find the slightest difference.
Unfortunately, no matter how she looked, it was all in vain.
Her eyes dimmed for a moment, and she couldn’t help but smile bitterly.
After all, it was just a shield—a thought she had overcomplicated.
At the bank, Jiang Mengnan completed all the procedures. Looking at the clearance certificate in her hand, she sighed deeply.
Refusing Qin Jiu’s kindness, Jiang Mengnan wandered alone through the downtown streets until she arrived at Riverside Park.
Sitting on a wooden bench, Jiang Mengnan tilted her head slightly to feel the warmth of the sunlight.
A faint smile curled at her lips; at this moment, she felt reborn.
But just as she was about to enjoy this moment, an unwelcome call from Jiang Yulin spoiled it.
Seeing “Dad” on the caller ID, Jiang Mengnan sneered and answered coldly, “Mr. Jiang, what made you think of me now?”
On the other end, Jiang Yulin nervously greeted, “Mengnan, I heard you’ve paid off all the debts?”
Jiang Mengnan rolled her eyes, sure that Manager Qiu had leaked the news.
Looking at her luxurious dress, a resolute gleam flashed in Jiang Mengnan’s eyes: “Yes, I paid the money. Oh, by the way, your good friend Manager Qiu told me I can seek reimbursement from you for these thirty million. Mr. Jiang, how do you plan to repay it?”
Thinking Jiang Mengnan was still angry, Jiang Yulin patiently comforted, “We’re family; no need to talk about reimbursement. This time, Dad was wrong and caused you to suffer. Once I’m settled in Australia, I’ll bring you over immediately. We’ll be a happy family again, alright?”
Jiang Mengnan raised her chin slightly, her vision blurring involuntarily.

These “touching” words were not the first time she had heard them.
Before, out of filial affection, Jiang Mengnan had endured.
But this time, she had to put an end to it.
Wiping her eyes, Jiang Mengnan sighed deeply, steadying her emotions: “Jiang Yulin, this is the last time I help you. From now on, I’ll consider you dead. Don’t ever come looking for me again.”
Though her words were ruthless, Jiang Mengnan couldn’t help but pause, hoping for a response.
Unexpectedly, Jiang Yulin’s concern wasn’t for her: “So, that thirty million is also written off?”
Tears slipped down her cheeks helplessly. The cold words instantly sobered Jiang Mengnan.
She resolutely hung up and ignored any further calls from Jiang Yulin.
Drying her tears, Jiang Mengnan looked at a happy family of three by the Huangpu River and envied them deeply.
Here she was, standing by the river mourning the worthlessness of her own family bonds.
About ten meters away, Qin Jiu held a pair of binoculars, carefully observing Jiang Mengnan’s every move and reporting back to Lu Yu in real time.
Seeing Jiang Mengnan wiping her tears, Qin Jiu truthfully reported, “Miss Jiang seems upset, looks like she’s crying.”
At this moment, Lu Yu was sitting leisurely in Boss Qiang’s office, waiting.
Hearing that Jiang Mengnan was crying, Lu Yu was baffled.
Logically, with thirty million in hand and debts cleared, she should be happy.
Unable to find a reason, Lu Yu irritably scratched his head. “Go find out what’s going on.”
“Ah? Young master, I don’t know how to…” Qin Jiu hesitated at Lu Yu’s request.
Before he could refuse, Lu Yu left him with, “Figure it out yourself.”
What followed was a harsh “beep beep” as the call ended.
It wasn’t that Lu Yu was heartless; he simply had more important matters to attend to.
He looked at Boss Qiang, who had just entered the office, and smiled broadly.
That smile sent chills down Boss Qiang’s spine.
Rubbing his forehead, Boss Qiang said, “Spill it. What trouble did you get into this time?”
Lu Yu tossed a bright red booklet onto the desk: “I’m married.”
Boss Qiang was stunned, feeling as if an atomic bomb had just dropped on his head.
