Betrayed? How could Shi Xu Huo be deceived in love? Once he loved, he wouldn’t even wait for anyone to deceive him—he would obediently dig his own heart out.

“Sister Lu, Shi Xu Huo and I have reached the end,” Nan Yi Song rubbed her temples.

“Madam,” Sister Lu’s heart tightened, “Are you going to divorce Mr. Huo?”

“If I had proposed divorce before he abandoned me, maybe I wouldn’t look so miserable now. But I know that only if he initiates the divorce can I walk away unscathed.”

She wasn’t sure if Sister Lu could understand her.

A marriage gone sour was complicated.

She gave a bitter smile. “Sister Lu, from now on, don’t hold any hostility toward Su An. Someday, she will be the mistress of this house.”

It was only a matter of time.

Nan Yi Song’s words saddened Sister Lu.

But she was just a servant; there was nothing she could change.

“Madam, I understand,” Sister Lu said, then left.

After that, Nan Yi Song went upstairs, hoping to use Shi Xu Huo’s absence to pack the things she intended to take with her.

After marrying Shi Xu Huo, he had given her many precious jewels, clothes, and shoes.

In return, she had gifted him several expensive watches, each worth over a million.

She refused to take the gifts he gave her, but the gifts she gave him, she planned to bring along.

Just as Shi Xu Huo stepped inside, Nan Yi Song was closing the zipper on her suitcase.

He frowned and asked, “What are you doing? Trying to run away from home? Nan Yi Song, will you ever stop? You’re the one who hurt Su An today—you’re at fault, yet you’re still throwing a tantrum?”

Nan Yi Song glanced at him calmly.

Her voice was steady. “You’re overthinking it. I have a business trip in a few days and am just preparing in advance.”

Shi Xu Huo didn’t think much of it.

To be precise, he wasn’t in the mood to speculate on the truth behind Nan Yi Song packing her luggage.

He cleared his throat, his expression cold as frost. “Nan Yi, I don’t understand why you harbor such hostility toward Su An. Even if you simply dislike her, can’t you at least keep up appearances for her birthday today? It’s really not that hard. I truly can’t understand you.”

Shi Xu Huo was reproaching her.

Nan Yi Song felt a deep disappointment.

She didn’t want to explain.

Even if she did, he might not believe her.

Seeing no response from her, Shi Xu Huo’s gaze darkened.

His tone grew more accusatory and resentful. “Is it because she lives with us, dependent on others, that you bully her? Nan Yi Song, can you just be a little normal? Look at yourself now—what have you become?”

“What should I be like?” Nan Yi Song looked into the man’s icy eyes, her brow furrowed. “Shi Xu Huo, what do I have to become for you to be satisfied?”

“You promised me you would take good care of her. You even agreed to host the birthday party. Why betray that now...” He grabbed her wrist to argue but noticed the handkerchief tied around her finger, soaked in blood.

He swallowed the rest of his words and focused on her injured finger. “You’re hurt. Why didn’t you treat it properly? Simply wrapping it in a handkerchief like this—what if it gets infected?”

Nan Yi Song pulled her hand away. “It doesn’t hurt.”

“At least disinfect it.” He turned to fetch the first aid kit, retrieving alcohol, gauze, and a traditional herbal ointment.

He patiently tended to her wound.

His voice softened without realizing it. “Nan Yi, we’re decent people. Why do such disgraceful things in front of so many? What should have been a good occasion turned into petty jealousy. How do you expect outsiders to see us? It’s bad for the company’s image.”

The man before her felt unfamiliar.

Nan Yi Song knew him all too well.

He spoke of the company, but in his heart, no doubt he cared deeply for Su An.

Nan Yi Song didn’t know what Shi Xu Huo’s ultimate intention was with all these preparations.

She no longer had the strength to argue.

“Shi Xu Huo, what do you really want from me?”

Shi Xu Huo took a deep breath and looked up at Nan Yi Song. “Nan Yi, tonight’s incident—I can treat it as an accident. But Su An was seriously hurt. She’s in the hospital now with no one to care for her. Why don’t you go look after her? It would at least give the outside world an explanation.”

He glanced down at her injured finger.

Feeling a pang of conscience, he added, “It’s mostly just for show. You don’t have to do much, just let the reporters see you—it won’t damage the company’s reputation. Don’t you agree?”

Nan Yi Song felt exhausted.

She knew that if she refused, Shi Xu Huo would only escalate the matter.

That would be a big obstacle if she wanted to file for divorce later.

Having been reborn, she had already seen through his coldness and ruthlessness and no longer cared about his overwhelming love for Su An.

The living Shi Xu Huo was, at this moment, growing colder and colder in Nan Yi Song’s heart.

“Understood.”

Hearing her consent, Shi Xu Huo breathed a sigh of relief.

He gently tied the gauze, instructing, “Don’t get it wet. If it doesn’t improve, be sure to see a doctor.”

Nan Yi Song remained silent.

He added, “You must be tired. Get some rest.”

...

The next day.

Nan Yi Song visited the hospital.

Su An’s facial bruises were obvious.

Her head and arm were wrapped in bandages.

Shi Xu Huo sat beside her bed, talking to her. When he saw Nan Yi Song enter, he stood up.

“You’re here.”

Nan Yi Song nodded lightly and handed over some supplements she had bought. “How are you?”

Seeing Nan Yi Song, Su An instinctively shrank her shoulders.

“Sister Nan Yi, is there some misunderstanding between us? If I offended you in any way, please tell me. If you don’t want me living here, I can move out. I...”

She looked frightened, wary.

Nan Yi Song frowned involuntarily.

Su An’s words, spoken in front of Shi Xu Huo, only deepened the misunderstanding.

In her previous life, after rejecting Su An’s presence at home, Shi Xu Huo had hidden her well.

She and Su An had only a few subtle conflicts, but she knew this young woman was somewhat calculating.

Without some skill, she wouldn’t have been able to keep a man like Shi Xu Huo wrapped around her finger just by playing the innocent.

A flicker of worry flashed across Shi Xu Huo’s brow before he said, “I asked Nan Yi. She didn’t do it on purpose. You misunderstood her.”

Shi Xu Huo was defending Nan Yi Song.

Nan Yi Song’s expression remained calm, without a trace of emotion.

After Shi Xu Huo’s words, Su An no longer pressed the matter.

She lowered her eyes slightly and inadvertently glanced at Nan Yi Song’s bandaged fingertips.

She exclaimed, “Sister Nan Yi, you’re hurt too? It seems I really misunderstood you. Shi Xu Huo, I’m sorry. I was so petty—I really deserve this.”

“It’s just a misunderstanding,” Shi Xu Huo said, rising to stand in front of Nan Yi Song with concern. “Since we’re all here, I’ll take you to treat your wound. Just a simple disinfection—I can’t help but worry.”

“Nan Yi didn’t treat it?” Su An urged Shi Xu Huo. “Shi Xu Huo, this is no small matter. You should accompany Sister Nan Yi. She might even need a shot. If it gets tetanus, that would be serious.”

Su An’s thoughtfulness pleased Shi Xu Huo greatly.

He took Nan Yi Song’s hand and walked out of the ward.

“Let’s go. We’ll get a doctor to check it out first.”

Nan Yi Song stood still, then gently withdrew her hand.

“No need. The wound has already healed.”
