Volume 1, Chapter 6: Bleeding Fingers
The lively birthday party continued on.
Without the bracelet on her wrist, Song Nanyi suddenly felt much lighter.
It turned out that discarding things that held no meaning to her was such a relief.
She felt grateful.
The wind had begun to blow.
The sheer curtains in the courtyard swayed and fluttered.
Song Nanyi was about to return inside, no longer wanting to partake in this celebration that had nothing to do with her.
As she turned, whether it was the strong wind or her unsteady footing, she staggered slightly and accidentally collided with the champagne tower.
The champagne tower toppled over, crashing toward the person standing nearby.
A sharp scream pierced the air.
Su Yuyan’s body was drenched in champagne and shattered glass, blood flowing profusely.
This accident was completely unexpected by Song Nanyi.
Su Yuyan collapsed into a pool of blood.
Her eyes looked at Song Nanyi with confusion and grievance. “Nanyi, you…”
Huo Shixu, hearing the commotion, pushed through the crowd and anxiously lifted Su Yuyan into his arms.
He shouted wildly at Song Nanyi, “Song Nanyi, are you insane? What grudge do you have against me? What tricks are you playing? I thought you had grown up, but it was all an act. You’re so treacherous.”
Song Nanyi stood rooted to the spot, her face pale as her fingertips dripped blood.
It hadn’t been intentional, but now, who cared?
Huo Shixu paid no attention to her injury, only yelling at her.
“Today is Yuyan’s birthday, such an important day, and you treat her this way? Song Nanyi, you’d better pray Yuyan’s alright, or I will never forgive you.”
Carrying Su Yuyan, Huo Shixu took a few steps before turning back fiercely. “I was too naive to think you were kind, Song Nanyi. You’ve truly disappointed me.”
“Shixu, didn’t you see that Nanyi was hurt too?” someone reminded him.
He halted abruptly and glanced at Song Nanyi’s bleeding fingers.
His heart tightened.
Just as he was about to act, Su Yuyan weakly lifted her eyelids. “Brother Shixu, you should take care of Nanyi first. I’m fine, don’t worry about me.”
“After being hurt like this, you’re still fine?” Huo Shixu looked at the man who spoke. “Watch over Nanyi for me. I’m taking Yuyan to the hospital first.”
Without another word, Huo Shixu strode off with Su Yuyan in his arms.
Song Nanyi closed her eyes, weariness washing over her.
Indeed, not being loved was a sin.
She knew he would choose Su Yuyan, yet it still hurt deeply.
“Since you’re injured, tend to it first.” Someone handed her a handkerchief.
Looking up, she saw Lu Weiqian.
He was Huo Shixu’s childhood friend. Over the years she had known and been married to Huo Shixu, she had rarely encountered him.
In fact, this was only their third meeting—once at the engagement, once at the wedding, and now.
“Thank you.” She accepted his kindness, tightly wrapping her wounded finger. “I’ll buy you a new handkerchief to replace this.”
“It’s just a handkerchief.” He showed concern in his eyes. “Actually, you should go to theI'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
