Chapter 116: The Heir of the Evil King Is Named Ghost Song
Ghost Song spoke each word deliberately, and when mentioning the words "Netherworld Evil Prison," his shoulders seemed to tremble faintly, perhaps affected by the terror of that prison.
Beside him, Chunyu Ji echoed in agreement, “You have a handsome appearance and extraordinary cultivation—surely a dragon among men. If you were to join our evil clan, you could live every day in joyful revelry with me, not caring for the world. What do you say?”
“No,” Bai Mu replied coldly, yet his gaze lingered on Ghost Song. After a moment, he seriously questioned, “You keep mentioning the Evil King. Could it be that this mission of yours was dispatched by the Evil King himself?”
“Hahaha.”
Ghost Song laughed loudly, mocking, “It’s a pity you have such decent cultivation but know nothing of the barbaric realms. Haven’t you heard that the Evil King Zi Gui was sealed by the God of War and the Heavenly Emperor on Mount Xuandan ten thousand years ago?”
“I have. So what?”
Bai Mu remained unfazed, thinking to himself that perhaps he could extract more information from Ghost Song. After all, if these two were indeed sent by the Evil King, then seizing the Fuxi Fang must not be a coincidence.
This matter might even involve the revered Fan Sheng, who was severely injured just days ago by the combined efforts of Evil King Zi Gui and Guilin’s Eight Trees. To say these events were unrelated would be hard to believe.
Seeing Bai Mu’s oblivious expression, Ghost Song cleverly remarked, “If you know about the sealing of the Netherworld Evil Clan, why would you say we were sent by the Evil King?”
“The Evil King is currently sealed within Mount Xuandan. Even if he wished to command us, he lacks the power,” Bai Mu said calmly.
“Is that so?”
Bai Mu smiled faintly, feigning ignorance, and asked, “Then why did you just ask me to submit to the Evil King?”
“Even if I wished to submit, how could I, when the Evil King remains sealed?”
“…”
Bai Mu’s rebuttal caught Ghost Song off guard; suddenly, his words felt contradictory, and he stood there momentarily speechless.
But Chunyu Ji, the coquettish woman beside him, was far more quick-witted.
Seeing Bai Mu's relentless questioning leave Ghost Song silent, she swayed her waist and stepped forward, speaking coquettishly, “Boy, asking too many questions won’t do you any good.”
“As for whether the Evil King is sealed, you don’t need to dig too deep. To us in the Southern Barbarian Evil Clan, the Evil King alone deserves eternal respect. His current state doesn’t matter; we believe he will return one day!”
“Then he will lead us—the remnants oppressed by the divine clans for nearly ten thousand years—to storm the Nine Heavens, utterly destroying the divine clans’ stronghold and making them taste the agony of extinction!”
“Is that so?”
Bai Mu shrugged and sneered, “You two might as well stop pretending. The entire Barbaric Realm already knows the Evil King escaped Mount Xuandan’s sealing. Your furtive behavior looks no different from that of clowns in my eyes!”
“Ah!”
Chunyu Ji and Ghost Song both exclaimed in surprise, clearly not expecting this young human to know of the Evil King’s return.
After a brief moment of silence, Ghost Song quickly regained composure, his eyes flashing with killing intent as he fixed Bai Mu with a cold glare. “Since you know the Evil King has escaped from Mount Xuandan, you will not leave this place alive tonight!”
“Very well, very well,” Bai Mu clapped his hands appreciatively. “Actually, you should have acted sooner, but it’s not too late now. Or how about we make a wager?”
“A wager?”
Ghost Song gathered the sinister energy around his palm, feigning nonchalance as he asked.
“Simple.”
Bai Mu crossed his Azure Dragon Sword before his chest and declared loudly, “You and I will fight one-on-one. If you win, I will withdraw from the Fuxi Village affair tonight. But if you lose, you must reveal to me the truth behind the struggle for the Fuxi Fang. Deal?”
“Hmph.”
Ghost Song scoffed disdainfully, “Though you have decent cultivation, you are but a young human. Wanting to duel me alone is laughable!”
His arrogant tone made Bai Mu uneasy.
Though Ghost Song’s cultivation was unclear, it was at best comparable to his own—perhaps slightly higher, but not by much.
Yet his confidence suggested he had a formidable background, or he wouldn’t be so haughty.
With this in mind, Bai Mu slyly pressed on, “Judging by your insolence, you must have a great background?”
“Of course.”
Ghost Song arrogantly raised his head and proclaimed, “As a direct disciple of the Evil King, do you think I would bother fighting a lowly human like you?”
Whew...
Bai Mu’s heart pounded wildly, his emotions surging like a storm.
Recalling how a few days ago Fan Sheng was grievously wounded by the combined might of the Evil King and Guilin’s Eight Trees, a thirst for revenge stirred within him.
Though he was no match for the Evil King or Guilin’s Eight Trees in a direct confrontation, finding the Evil King’s own disciple outside Fuxi Village tonight was a stroke of fortune.
Since challenging the Evil King directly was impossible now, why not vent his anger on the Evil King’s disciple?
He took a deep breath to steady his racing heart and smiled as if nothing had happened. “So you’re a favored disciple of the Netherworld Evil King Zi Gui. Why didn’t your master and Guilin’s Eight Trees come in person?”
“To deal with insignificant vermin like those in Fuxi Village? Why would the Evil King or Eight Trees bother?”
“These human vermin are no more than ants to me. If not for the protective formations left by Emperor Fuxi, Chunyu Ji and I would have stormed in and wiped them out long ago…”
“Wait.”
Ghost Song suddenly stopped speaking and fell silent for a moment before glancing at Chunyu Ji with a puzzled expression. “How does this kid know Guilin’s Eight Trees have reappeared in the Barbaric Realm?”
Chunyu Ji was also startled inwardly. She murmured, “Since the Evil King escaped Mount Xuandan’s seal, Eight Trees only appeared once recently when fighting Fan Sheng. Apart from a few in the Evil Clan, no outsider could possibly know!”
“Unless... this kid is Fan Sheng’s disciple?”
“But that seems unlikely. I’ve been undercover in the Eastern Wilderness for nearly a century and have never heard of Fan Sheng having any disciples!”
“Besides, given his noble divine clan status, he would never take a human as a disciple!”
