Chapter Twenty-Five: The Logistics Association
A series of explanations forced Chen Shi to take a sip of water to ease his thirst.
“Many organizations of the Wandering World were established before the Daywalkers’ Society.
In the early stages of the game, some leaders, possessing greater knowledge and resources, had already formed quite sophisticated organizational structures.
Currently, in the Great Xia, the larger organizations include the Divine Artisans Guild, renowned for their forging skills; the Hundred Herbs Garden, devoted to the study of potions and enhancement foods; the Flame Blade, specializing in combat; and the White Dove Hostel, which journeys across the world.
There are also smaller groups, like the Divination Society, which spreads negativity all day, and the Light of the Net, whose sole purpose is to oppose the Shadow of the Net—such groups are rather peculiar.”
Chen Shi continued,
“The Holy Calamity Association is another umbrella organization, with a far more chaotic and complex structure.
It includes the Cup’s Followers, obsessed with summoning disasters; the Shadow of the Net, who prefer to physically cut off network connections; the Butchers, infamous for creating violent and bloody incidents; and the Crow Flock, who delight in training newcomers into obedient slaves. The Umbrella Bearers who came to kidnap you are members of this Crow Flock!
The Crow Flock focuses on violently controlling new players, cultivating those who will obey their every command, thus boosting their own strength.
In summary, the Holy Calamity Association pursues power to extremes or exalts disaster. Their methods and violence are notorious.
Besides these two factions, there are some peculiar organizations outside the main narrative, but information about them is classified; I only know of one.”
So when divided further, there are so many organizations among the Wandering World’s people. What are the others like?
Dawn Qi propped his chin, deep in thought.
Should I not have mentioned the other organizations? Chen Shi’s voice unconsciously grew louder:
“And the leaders of these organizations are all top-tier powerhouses, known as ‘Special-class Players,’ that is, those ranked among the world’s top one hundred.
Their levels are at least fifteen, and each possesses the ability to handle difficult disasters single-handedly.
Of course, they are not easy to get along with.”
Chen Shi paused and glanced at Old Yu beside him:
“By the way, although we are just a branch of the Daywalkers’ Society, our branch’s liaison with headquarters, Captain Yu Xian, is also a special-class player.”
No matter what, they had to find a way to keep these two newcomers. Chen Shi and Old Yu had already made up their minds in secret!
Now, the other organizations undoubtedly covet these two newcomers as well—their ambitions are stirring!
Apart from showing goodwill, it was necessary to display their own organizational strength!
Dawn Qi glanced at the New Sun Game; indeed, the panels of Old Yu and Chen Shi could not be viewed.
Which meant their strength surpassed his own by at least five levels.
Old Yu spoke,
“I am old now, among special-class players I am one of the weakest, but when it comes to guiding newcomers, I am not inferior to any expert from the other organizations.”
He seemed quite formidable. Dawn Qi nodded, and summarized their words.
Simply put, organizations of the Wandering World now split into two camps: the Holy Calamity Association and the Daywalkers’ Society.
The Holy Calamity Association is extreme in its pursuit of power and ruthlessly violent, while the Daywalkers’ Society acts as a neutral party, maintaining order, with a variety of strange organizations under its regulation.
Hearing this, Dawn Qi frowned; if he were forcibly taken by the Umbrella Bearers, things would become very interesting.
Dawn Qi straightened his back.
Their lengthy discourse was clearly an attempt to recruit the two of them. Having a reliable organization was undoubtedly a good thing, though he still hesitated.
He wasn’t sure what he would gain from the Daywalkers’ Society, nor what he would be required to do.
Moreover, being a lone wolf wasn’t wise—it was likely the Holy Calamity Association would target him again.
He needed to ask. Just as Dawn Qi was about to speak, the Messenger of Calamity, who had been silent for a long time, finally stirred.
The Messenger of Calamity straightened up, her icy expression instantly transforming into one of supreme confidence. She had already organized her thoughts!
I possess a rare talent, she took a deep breath and began to speak, reading from her mental script:
“Thank you both for your explanations. First, I have a question: Are you two the highest authorities of the Daywalkers’ Society in the White River District?”
Though her voice remained soft and delicate, the Messenger of Calamity now spoke with newfound confidence.
Old Yu nodded.
The Messenger of Calamity said:
“Based on the information I’ve gathered, all organizations—whether Hundred Herbs Garden or White Dove Hostel—are eager to recruit newcomers with rare talents. I have already obtained some contact information.
I am grateful for your assistance, but forgive my bluntness.
I presume you wish to recruit us as well, but I want to know: What can the Daywalkers’ Society offer the two of us?”
She finished in one breath, doing her best to maintain her momentum.
So direct, but well said. Dawn Qi gave her an internal thumbs up.
At last, they reached this point—a test for him. Chen Shi drank another sip of water:
“As the unifier of various organizations, our forum possesses intelligence on all others, and our repository of exchangeable items is more comprehensive than any other organization.
We can offer you the best firearms training, as well as some advanced technological equipment.
Moreover, as long as you don’t break the law, we will do our utmost to meet your requests, whether for money or other things.”
The Messenger of Calamity lowered her head, pondering.
Just then, Old Yu sent a private message to Chen Shi:
“We must secure them! They are rare newcomers from the New Sun Game Mutual Aid Group!”
I’ll do my best… Chen Shi took a large gulp of water and said:
“Compared to the specialization of other organizations, the Daywalkers’ Society is more well-rounded.
As a branch, our principle is to ensure every newcomer develops normally.
There are no mandatory tasks here; everything is voluntary. We should be the most free organization of all.”
Freedom!
Though he longed to be a lone wolf, it was clear the organization could help him greatly.
If he must join an organization, task complexity is undoubtedly a key factor for Dawn Qi.
Old Yu shook his head.
Due to the Holy Calamity Association’s recent expansion and the dwindling number of newcomers as the beta nears its end, betrayals have become common worldwide.
In Hundred Herbs Garden, two members defected during missions, joining the Holy Calamity Association and becoming deadly poison masters.
To prevent newcomers from becoming resentful and defecting, all organizations have loosened their management.
Among them, the White River branch is the most lenient—so long as you don’t break the law, they allow complete freedom.
Dawn Qi looked at Chen Shi:
“How free?”
“Very free.”
Chen Shi felt a little bitter as he spoke; the previous newcomers were hardly exemplary:
“In our branch, some people, after becoming players, spend every Sunday beating up their gambling-addicted fathers and bad friends.
Some devote themselves to studying for the college entrance exam, unwilling to squander their past two years of effort.
Some, determined to punish online trolls, have even flown across the country, spending seven days on a personal vendetta.
For all these time-wasting pursuits, our branch only advises them…”
“…”
Each real-life example Chen Shi gave revealed the sorrow he felt as team leader.
Old Yu’s heart sank; how could Chen Shi expose their branch’s scandals!
Still, he had to admit their management was far from ideal.
How outrageous… Dawn Qi laughed inwardly, but this was exactly what he wanted.
The Messenger of Calamity took out a piece of dark chocolate and ate it, keeping her expression steady:
“Hmm…”
She was still bargaining—Dawn Qi had to admit, he was tempted.
Chen Shi took a deep breath and said:
“To be honest, compared to other organizations, the Daywalkers’ Society isn’t the best in many areas.
But in intelligence, freedom, newcomer protection, and comprehensive resources, our branch is absolutely the best.
Though our management is loose, the Society’s headquarters excels at training and support. If your talents allow, it’s not difficult to enter headquarters through our branch.
If you don’t mind, we’re willing to provide you with special forum accounts for a few days and meet any requests during that period.
You can also visit other organizations, then decide whether to join us.”
Such sincerity!
Moreover, if all the White River District players were in New City’s Eighth District, White River could offer greater support.
And they had tried to save him, though unsuccessfully.
Dawn Qi considered and said,
“I’m willing to give it a try.”
It does seem good—the Messenger of Calamity’s face flushed slightly with joy.
Unlike Dawn Qi, she appeared calm but actually had weaker adaptability; joining an organization for protection was especially important to her.
She said,
“I am too. By the way, I’d like a private room for myself.”
Exhaustion again washed over him; Dawn Qi stretched his limbs:
“I’d also like a private room, and if possible, I hope it has adequate fitness equipment.”
Old Yu breathed a sigh of relief, slowly rising to his feet and speaking gravely:
“Leave it to us. Oh, and you two, when you post in the New Sun Game Mutual Aid Group, be very careful.”
Hearing the name, Chen Shi shook his head; the New Sun Game chat group was rumored to be the most terrifying of all the outsider organizations.
“Why is that?”
Dawn Qi asked.
Old Yu’s pupils contracted; he rubbed his aching head and teased,
“That’s classified. Once you join us, search the forum and you’ll see.”
Such blatant fishing…
But Dawn Qi could guess—the peculiarities of the Mutual Aid Group likely tied to that person, Luo Qing.
After the initial meeting and some idle chatter, night had already fallen, and dawn would bring the New Sun Game.
Dawn Qi returned to the hotel room arranged by the Daywalkers’ Society. After a brief workout, raising the digestibility of the Bloodblade Fruit to twenty-one percent, he drifted into exhausted sleep.
…
Early the next morning, before sunrise.
Dawn Qi seemed to hear dogs barking, and woke from bed, turning to the New Sun Game.
[The sound of barking unsettles you. You rise from your bed; daylight has not yet ignited, and the world remains under the smiling moon.]
[You sense a faint presence beside you. Turning, you look at the nightstand.]
[Your new supervisor—the Dog Master—is sitting right next to you, eyes blazing with fire, staring at you.]
“???”
