Chapter Thirteen: After Work
Last time, Shen Wang caused a commotion in the neighborhood, and dealing with him had wasted quite a bit of time and energy. For someone like Pei Jiayin, time was even more precious.
“It’s nothing, it’s nothing,” Yu Youchu waved her hand dismissively. She actually found the water the big boss brought her too hot! She really had no awareness at all! Did she still want to live here or not?!
With that thought, she drank the water in her cup, which had cooled down due to the excess cold water added.
“Let’s go.”
Why did she feel Pei Jiayin was too gentle? Was it just her imagination?
When they arrived at the company, Pei Jiayin woke Yu Youchu up.
“We’re here.”
Yu Youchu looked around, thinking this was not what she had expected.
“This is Huasheng’s underground parking lot. Weren’t you worried about people seeing us coming and going together? You get out first; I’ll leave later.”
Yu Youchu rubbed her sleepy eyes.
Oh right, how had she forgotten! It must be because she had been carless before and had forgotten that a large company like Huasheng definitely had an underground garage.
“Thanks! See you after work.”
Yu Youchu smiled and, after the car door closed, ran toward the elevator entrance.
Pei Jiayin was momentarily stunned, then suddenly started looking forward to meeting after work. He watched Yu Youchu’s figure grow smaller as she walked away, and only after she entered the elevator did he get out of the car.
Yesterday’s work had indeed been done well. The people at Baoli even made a special call to Huasheng, indicating they wanted Mu Chuan and Yu Youchu to attend the next work handover together.
As expected, Bai Bingge praised Yu Youchu and Mu Chuan’s work at the team meeting.
Yu Youchu instantly felt secure, smiling at everyone all morning like a spring breeze blowing through Huasheng.
“Isn’t it just praise from Team Leader Bai? Look at how proud she is—her tail’s almost wagging to the sky.”
Yu Youchu was holding her lunch—dumplings today—and was looking for a good spot to enjoy them when she suddenly heard a familiar voice gossiping behind her.
She turned around and found it was Wan Ninghe again.
Last time, Team Leader Bai let her off lightly, but Yu Youchu was not an easy target. If she didn’t show her fighting spirit, Wan Ninghe might mistake her for a paper tiger.
“Excuse me.”
Yu Youchu leisurely placed her dumplings next to Wan Ninghe and said with a clear voice close to her ear,
“I forgot to add vinegar to my dumplings at lunch. I smell something sour here; do you have any vinegar?”
“Yu Youchu, you—”
“You what? When Team Leader Bai asked yesterday if anyone wanted to take on the field assignment, why didn’t you fight for it yourself? Now you’re here, begrudging others’ success—isn’t that pathetic? Do you think everyone is as useless as you?”
A crack appeared on Wan Ninghe’s delicate face.
“Who are you calling useless?!”
“Now see, even your ears are having problems. Don’t blame me.”
Yu Youchu picked up her dumplings and walked away, afraid Wan Ninghe would make a fuss.
“Some people are like that; if you don’t speak harshly, they’ll just take advantage.”
Mu Chuan, who had witnessed everything, caught up to Yu Youchu.
“Oh my god, you scared me!”
Suddenly someone spoke beside her, and Yu Youchu was so startled she almost spilled her dumplings.
Mu Chuan quickly steadied her hand.
“Sorry to scare you.”
Yu Youchu looked up at him. Though he said sorry, his face was bright with a smile, his two tiger teeth barely hidden.
“But you’re right. Wasn’t I cool just now?”
Yu Youchu pulled out her chair and sat down, and Mu Chuan sat across from her, going along with the flow.
“Cool!”
He gave her a thumbs up.
“How about that guy from yesterday? Still mad after going home?”
Hearing that, Yu Youchu got annoyed, and seeing him smile innocently made her even more irritated.
“You see, you just left and left me with the suspicion of standing people up! I had to explain myself for a long time yesterday.”
Yu Youchu stabbed a dumpling with her chopsticks as if venting.
“Are you really upset about being stood up?”
Mu Chuan idly played with the broccoli in his bowl and casually asked.
Yu Youchu mumbled, “Yeah.”
Mu Chuan laughed again at her expression.
But he thought that man wasn’t just simply angry; that challenging look seemed more like a warning.
Maybe... more like jealousy?
Mu Chuan took out a tissue from his pocket and handed it to Yu Youchu.
“Here, wipe your mouth.”
“Thanks.”
Yu Youchu took it and bit into a big dumpling.
Seeing this, Mu Chuan suddenly felt less inclined to remind her. Her innocent silliness was rather amusing.
He reached out and brushed Yu Youchu’s bangs aside.
“Be careful not to bite your hair.”
Only then did Yu Youchu look up, embarrassed as she tucked her bangs behind her ear, revealing a snow-white forehead and cheeks puffed out as she chewed.
Like a three-petal-mouthed rabbit.
Mu Chuan picked up a piece of fish and put it in his mouth.
After work, Yu Youchu went down to the underground garage and found Pei Jiayin already waiting in the car.
She opened the door, got in, and smiled at Pei Jiayin.
So the big boss was also someone who ran fast. She had thought her speed was already lightning-fast when leaving work.
Pei Jiayin keenly sensed Yu Youchu’s good mood.
“Did something happen today? You seem really happy.”
“Ah? Is it that obvious?”
Pei Jiayin nodded, driving the car out of the underground garage.
“There was a field assignment yesterday, and I did really well. The team leader praised me. I feel like my probation is definitely secure.”
Yu Youchu imagined her employee badge turning into a permanent one.
“When I become official, I’ll treat you to a meal!”
“Don’t forget, there’s already one this weekend. Can someone’s little treasure chest handle it?”
Yu Youchu’s face stiffened, her smile frozen.
“How about this: if you become official, I’ll take you out to eat as a welcome gift.”
Pei Jiayin reminded her, “Seatbelt.”
Only then did Yu Youchu remember and turned to find the seatbelt, but as she turned, she saw Wan Ninghe waiting for a car.
“Tch, enemies meet on narrow roads.”
Yu Youchu turned her face away.
“Which enemy dares to mess with you?”
Pei Jiayin instinctively glanced over but was immediately stopped by Yu Youchu, who pinched his chin and turned his face away.
He felt something cold touch his chin, and before he could react, a gentle force guided his chin to face forward.
Then Yu Youchu’s voice whispered in his ear.
“Unsafe driving brings tears to loved ones. Focus on driving, Pei Jiayin!”
Yu Youchu withdrew her hand.
“She’s just a competitor. Once the probation is over, she definitely won’t get into Huasheng. No need to care about her; she’ll be my defeated rival in the future.”
