Chapter 28: Identity Exposed? Jealousy!
“Go around them.” Dongfang Yuyue’s reply was crisp and decisive, making it clear that he had no intention of involving himself in other people’s troubles.
“Giddy up!”
Guifang had never intended to interfere either. He had merely stopped because Luoqian Fan’s face seemed strangely familiar, and somehow ended up lingering.
Now that he had heard Dongfang Yuyue’s command, Guifang tightened his grip on the saddle and shouted. The White Yin Horse charged forward as if injected with fresh blood.
“Help, help me—aaah—ahhh!”
Covered in wounds and sprawled across the ground, Caier and the others were undoubtedly the most terrified of all.
What was happening? They had survived the bandits’ assault, only to be trampled to death by a horse?
If they had known this journey would be so dangerous, they never would have come, no matter what.
But regret came too late.
To their horror, the White Yin Horse did not trample over them as they had imagined. Instead, it leaped neatly across their bodies and landed steadily on the other side.
Guifang turned back and smiled—a sinister, contemptuous smile. By the time the White Yin Horse had charged toward them, Caier and the others had already fainted from fright.
Hmph. Timid women.
“What sort of people are you? How dare you behave so arrogantly on my turf. Don’t you know the rules around here?”
Yan Mojue stepped forward.
Guifang’s eyes narrowed, a vicious glint flashing through them.
Damn it. They actually dared to stop his master’s carriage. Did they have a death wish?
Couldn’t they pick a better time to cause trouble?
Heaven knew that his master’s temper had been unpredictable these past few days, with storms constantly brewing. Even they were barely able to endure it.
Especially today. They had originally gone to Medicine Nether Valley to seek treatment from the Young Master of Medicine Nether, only to be told upon arrival that the young master had left the valley a month ago. No one even knew where he was now.
When Guifang had heard that, he had felt a chill creep up his back, as though a strange wind had blown straight through his heart. Even now, the shadow of it still lingered.
It was supposed to be midsummer, yet the atmosphere had turned as cold as winter.
Nearby, Luoqian Fan could not help applauding Yan Mojue’s actions.
Impressive, big brother. You actually dared to challenge His Highness Prince Yu. Truly worthy of official approval—reliable and genuine.
While laughing inwardly, Luoqian Fan also secretly sweated for him.
Please, don’t drag me into this!
Luoqian Fan had noticed Guifang the moment he arrived. Seeing that dazzling carriage, it was easy enough to guess who was sitting inside. She simply had not expected to encounter Dongfang Yuyue in a place like this.
What a strange twist of fate.
“You petty little thieves, move aside.”
As he spoke, a cold glint surfaced in Guifang’s eyes.
Hearing those infuriating words, one of the underlings grew furious. His honest, sturdy face darkened.
“Who are you calling petty thieves? You’re dressed from head to toe in black, looking like a lump of charcoal, and you’re putting on a sour face for whom? You’re cold and unpleasant. The fact that our leader is willing to spare you is a blessing. If you know what’s good for you, hand over the money you’re carrying. Then we might even leave your corpses intact.”
How dare he insult their leader!
This was intolerable!
Guifang had already lost patience. He had a feeling that if they stayed here any longer, something unforeseen would happen. His eyes stabbed toward the group blocking the road like sharpened blades.
Luoqian Fan merely curled her lips and watched the farce with complete detachment.
A male version of a palace drama! It would be a waste not to enjoy such a delicious spectacle!
Inside the carriage, Dongfang Yuyue’s swordlike brows drew tightly together as a suffocating pressure spread outward. His tightly pressed lips carried a sharp, murderous edge, and icy air filled the space around him.
“Those who don’t want to die should get lost!”
The blunt sentence contained a multitude of emotions.
While watching the spectacle, Luoqian Fan felt a restless impulse stir inside her, as though some unruly factor were about to leap free. She forcibly suppressed it.
Then she sensed Yan Mojue’s movements and could not help feeling surprised.
Yan Mojue was actually able to withstand Dongfang Yuyue’s pressure.
Still, blood seeped from the corners of both men’s mouths.
They looked utterly disheveled.
In the blink of an eye, a whole swath of people had collapsed onto the ground. Only Yan Mojue and Luoqian Fan were still struggling to hold on.
“Big brother, why don’t you let them pass? Judging from the way they look, they probably don’t have much money anyway. There’s no point in remaining locked in a standoff, is there?”
Big brother, this really wasn’t the time to show off. If you kept forcing yourself to endure, you were both going to die here.
Luoqian Fan moved her little mouth and added silently in her heart.
Hearing this, Yan Mojue finally stopped pretending and immediately softened.
“All right, all right, we’re done fighting. Let them pass. Let them pass, okay?”
He was truly at a loss with this man. Was it necessary to strike so heavily over a little money? Fortunately, Little Fan had given him a way out. Otherwise, he really might have been forced to death.
Yan Mojue cursed furiously inside, but he still moved his legs aside and made way for them.
The carriage began moving again, though the pressure lingering around it had not yet dissipated.
A breeze drifted past, lifting the corner of Dongfang Yuyue’s curtain and revealing, through the narrow opening, a glimpse of his enchanting eyes. Suddenly—
“Guifang, stop the carriage.”
His voice held both excitement and disbelief.
Could it be him?
“Whoa!”
Guifang did not know why his master had suddenly ordered him to stop, but he had a feeling.
It must have something to do with that person.
Guifang narrowed his eyes and looked toward Luoqian Fan.
Dongfang Yuyue stepped down from the carriage and walked straight toward her.
Just as expected!
Luoqian Fan naturally sensed more than one burning gaze fixed upon her, but one of them carried an extremely dangerous aura. Her heart gave an uneasy thump.
Surely not. Could he really have discovered her?
At that moment, a pair of silver-white boots slowly touched the ground, casting a tall, slender shadow. Dongfang Yuyue’s usually alluring red lips had grown even more wicked and bewitching after days of rushing about. His black hair spilled down at an angle, radiating the imposing majesty of a king.
His phoenix eyes examined Luoqian Fan carefully.
“You’re a woman?”
Dongfang Yuyue had not deliberately lowered his voice, so everyone present could hear him faintly. Once again, the crowd was dumbfounded.
Was that why he had stepped out of the carriage?
Could this man be blind—or perhaps a fool? How could he fail to tell whether someone was a man or a woman?
Only Dongfang Yuyue knew of the trembling excitement in his heart, and the disbelief that accompanied it.
A moment ago, he had clearly seen “him.” So how had “he” become “her”?
Had he missed her so deeply that he had gone mad? Or was this truly her?
But if this person was not “her,” how could she look so alike?
While he was deep in thought—
“Could it be that you’re blind, my lord?” Luoqian Fan lifted one brow slightly, her eyes dark and unreadable.
It seemed he had begun to suspect something. She had to dispel his doubts as soon as possible.
Suddenly, she curved her lips into a wicked smile.
“Still, judging from how expertly you drive a carriage, you hardly look blind. Could it be that you misunderstand the difference between men and women? Or perhaps you’re trying to flirt with me?”
Luoqian Fan instinctively folded her arms over her generous chest.
A hint of amusement seemed to surface in Dongfang Yuyue’s long, narrow eyes. He smiled faintly.
“What do you think?”
How would I know whether you misunderstand men and women? Even if I did, you’d deny it, so why should I invite trouble for myself?
“It seems there’s nothing wrong with you, after all,” Luoqian Fan replied weakly, sensing danger.
As expected, Dongfang Yuyue had grown suspicious.
He took a step forward, pressing toward her. Their two exquisite faces were now only inches apart—so close that they could feel each other’s heated breath.
Even someone as composed as Luoqian Fan could not help being startled.
This man could have spoken from a normal distance. Why did he have to come so close?
Could that flamboyant phoenix have suddenly changed his nature?
Did he like both men and women?
It seemed those rumors really were unreliable. Luoqian Fan immediately stamped them with the label of falsehood.
But she had no time to concern herself with that now. Her identity absolutely could not be exposed, or this man would ruin everything.
An eerie silence settled over the surroundings.
“My father once told me that men and women should keep their distance, so I’ll be leaving first.”
Luoqian Fan abruptly turned her head and uttered the lie she had never once taken seriously.
“…”
Men and women should keep their distance?
Even now, this woman was still inventing lies.
Dongfang Yuyue had already confirmed that she was that cunning young woman—the mysterious Young Master of Medicine Nether.
He lifted his eyes helplessly toward the top of Luoqian Fan’s head. He really wanted to pry open her skull and see what was inside.
Little one, since you want to play, then I shall play along to the very end.
Dongfang Yuyue snorted coldly, leaned forward, and shamelessly said, “Did your mother ever tell you that all things under heaven are equal, and all living beings are equal?”
Luoqian Fan was stunned.
What kind of absurd logic was that? Was this man actually playing along with her?
This man was deliberately making things difficult for her. He had been like this at Medicine Nether Valley, and he was still like this now.
Having lost the exchange, Luoqian Fan did not dare meet the deep meaning in his eyes. She turned her face away and said lightly, “Sorry. I’ve never heard that.”
Seeing the distance between them growing smaller and smaller, Yan Mojue felt an inexplicable discomfort.
“Who are you? Do you know who I am? Get away from her at once. She’s my woman!”
Yan Mojue shielded Luoqian Fan behind him, attempting to intimidate Dongfang Yuyue with his status.
But who was Dongfang Yuyue? Aside from the period he had spent in the Fengyue Kingdom, he had been treated like a god and pampered by everyone since childhood. He did not fall for such a trick.
No one had ever dared behave so arrogantly in front of him.
Dongfang Yuyue stared at the small figure behind Yan Mojue.
Your woman?
Yours?
Woman?
This woman had not been seen for only a few days, and she was already so eager to provoke other men?
Then what was he?
What did the irritation and unease he had felt these past few days mean?
Dongfang Yuyue suddenly felt that this entire period of his life had been a joke.
I have been suffering endlessly by myself, while you have been enjoying yourself out there, carefree and happy.
I absolutely will not allow you to forget me!
The temperature around them instantly plunged to freezing point.
Everyone fell silent.
What was going on?
The people from the Lu residence and the bandits alike were completely dumbfounded.
If they were not mistaken, two peerlessly handsome young men were now fighting over a young woman. Why did it look as though they were battling for the woman they loved?
A sinister wind swept past. Dongfang Yuyue’s handsome figure flashed through the air, leaving behind several afterimages. His fists fell upon Yan Mojue like a storm, each blow carrying a murderous force that narrowly avoided vital points. Even so, it was obvious that he had used his full strength.
No matter how furious he was, Dongfang Yuyue did not lay a hand on Luoqian Fan. Poor Yan Mojue, however, became the outlet for his anger and was brutally beaten.
“Who was that? How dare you hit me—ouch! Stop it, damn you! Ah!”
A figure flashed before Yan Mojue’s eyes, and he was inexplicably subjected to a savage beating. He was utterly incapable of fighting back.
He should have listened to his family back then. He ought to have practiced more whenever he had the time. Then he would not be so helpless now.
A scream rang out.
Several dark figures hidden nearby radiated intense fury, along with a murderous aura. Just as they were about to intervene, one of them suddenly caught hold of another.
