Chapter 120: The Watcher at the Villa and the Past
He was scrolling through the files on his phone when the real estate agent outside let out a few cries.
“Hey! What are you doing! Hey!” The agent’s shouts continued, followed immediately by the sound of shoving and the locking of the door.
He looked up to see several figures entering the room.
“Oh?”
All four men held knives—six-inch blades, single-edged. They seemed to be clustering around one man who acted as their leader.
They all looked quite young, no more than twenty-five or twenty-six, still retaining a hint of immaturity.
They stared at Chen Qing, at his calm expression, and at the phone he was still browsing. A thug at the back suddenly flared up.
“Damn it, kid! Can’t you see your betters have walked in?!”
Chen Qing looked up, giving them a dismissive glance. The agent was being held with a blade pressed against his throat, and the knives in their hands looked unusually new.
“Oh,” Chen Qing smiled, beckoning to them. “So you’re the ones keeping watch over this villa? Why?”
They frowned, bewildered by Chen Qing’s indifference. They exchanged glances, their eyes filled with confusion.
“Hey!” The thug holding the knife to the agent’s throat clicked his tongue. He pulled the blade away, tapped it against his own stomach a few times, then tilted his chin up, pointing the tip at Chen Qing. “Who are you with?”
Before he could finish, one of his companions pushed him back with an affected air and jutted his chin at Chen Qing. “Do you know where this place is? You think you can just barge in anywhere?”
“Oh?” Chen Qing asked, sounding slightly curious. “Where is this place? Isn’t it listed for sale? What, is it yours?”
He watched the men laugh, but their smiles were laced with undisguised disdain.
He took a step forward and asked the agent, “Have these people been in contact with you?”
“Huh?” The agent was stunned. He thought to himself, *How can you be talking to me so naturally at a time like this?*
He hesitated for a moment before answering timidly, “No... no contact at all...”
“I see...” Chen Qing nodded, his gaze drifting back to the message Jiang Wan had sent.
“Fuck you! You looking down on us?!”
Seeing Chen Qing’s reaction, the thugs raised their knives. They brandished them threateningly, causing the agent in the middle to break out in a cold sweat. The agent looked at Chen Qing, shaking his head in a silent plea; it was clear he didn't want Chen Qing to provoke them.
But would Chen Qing refrain?
Clearly not.
He smiled and took two more steps forward, mocking the four thugs. “Who is the one leading you? People like you can’t afford a villa. Who paid you to be here?”
He turned off his phone, tucked it into his pocket, and stood firmly before them.
He reached out, his fingertips brushing against one of the blades.
The edge was sharp; as he touched it lightly, he felt a sharp, obstructive sensation. He ran his finger along the blade, and blood flowed instantly.
Just then.
The four thugs began to tremble uncontrollably. They raised their knives, and the leader blew cigarette smoke into Chen Qing’s face.
He caught the cold look in Chen Qing’s eyes and his hand faltered for a second, but the rush of adrenaline gave him the courage to swing the blade.
A cold glint flashed, dizzying the agent. The blade descended with a whistling sound, slicing toward Chen Qing.
The agent closed his eyes; he couldn't bear to see the blade fall and the blood that would surely follow.
He couldn't bear it...
But in Chen Qing’s eyes, the sharp pain he felt in his body seemed to dull significantly. He watched the falling blade, and its speed seemed so slow that a fly could have landed on it.
Everything seemed to freeze. He watched the blade hover, not falling, and felt no urgency.
Until the moment the edge brushed against the hair on his forehead, and a few strands drifted into the air, a pair of eyes opened on his legs.
One on the left, one on the right—a pair in total.
Those eyes scanned the surroundings, their pupils the size of fists, filled with a primal hunger for the world.
They observed the world, and the field of vision was transmitted directly into Chen Qing’s mind.
He looked at the vast expanse and felt that his posture needed a slight adjustment. His current stance wouldn't allow for an explosive burst of speed.
He leaned slightly, the muscles in his legs as taut as steel cables.
In the next second, he swiped his palm against the blades. The speed was so great that the thugs couldn't even keep a grip on their handles.
The knives flew off to the left.
They collided with another blade, snapping it in two. Four broken pieces flew toward the wall.
They embedded themselves into the wall with a soft thud, slicing through the plaster like a hot knife through butter. It all happened in a heartbeat, before human nerves could even register the movement.
His gaze sharpened; he felt his abilities had increased significantly.
It was strange. He hadn't seen anything like this in the experimental records from the hospital.
It was strange, and he couldn't say if it was good or bad.
He steadied his breathing and focused on the remaining two blades. He lifted his legs, balancing on his elbows in a handstand. His knees were still partially on the ground, his body arched like a giant bow. In the next instant, he released the tension in his waist and legs, his feet snapping out to strike the blades, shattering them while the handles remained in the thugs' hands.
He watched the broken blade pierce the hand of the last man—the one who had threatened him earlier.
He took the handle and pressed it against the agent’s throat.
He swore he was only doing this to protect the agent. It was definitely not to get back at him for the insults.
Chen Qing nodded, convinced of his own integrity.
Yes, there was absolutely no desire for revenge.
He stood up, his breathing slowing, and the eyes on his legs gradually closed. This body was becoming less and less human.
He smiled bitterly, spreading his palms with a sense of helplessness.
“But then again... who asked the first superhuman organization I encountered to be the Grace Church...”
He sighed, his eyes turning cold. He looked up at the thugs, who were still struggling to process what had happened, and stepped forward half a pace.
That single half-step was enough to shatter the courage of the four thugs.
The man with the injured hand clutched his palm and rolled on the floor, wailing, his blood staining the ground and his own clothes.
The other three fell to their knees with a thud. They bowed their heads, soaked in cold sweat, trembling with terror.
They didn't dare to move or speak, their heads bowed as they cast pleading looks toward their leader.
But their leader was currently shaking so hard he couldn't utter a word.
He was the first to kneel, and the first to experience that uncontrollable, destructive speed.
He was also the first to catch a glimpse of the unclosed eye-slit on Chen Qing’s leg.
“Who ordered you to watch this place?”
He trembled; the words felt like a decree from an emperor or a god, leaving him with no choice but to obey.
“It... it was Brother Huang... Huang Zhize told us to guard this place!”
“What did he tell you to do?”
He hesitated, then stammered, “He... he didn't say! He just told us to keep watch and not let anyone near!”
Chen Qing rubbed his chin, curious. “But all the villas around here are for sale. Is he an idiot?”
They shivered, not daring to say another word.
“The villas around here...”
He frowned, repeating the words, then looked at the agent. “Is there anything you haven't told me? Like what actually happened at this villa?”
Before he could finish, the agent froze. His fingertips were cold. He looked at Chen Qing, swallowed hard, and said slowly, “This villa... someone died here before.”
“Died?” He was curious. “Who died? What happened?”
“It was just...” The agent hesitated, looking into Chen Qing’s eyes for a long time before saying, “Just... a little girl died...”
He frowned, feeling the situation becoming more complicated.
He looked at the four thugs, a thought suddenly crossing his mind.
“Don’t move! FBI... Police!”
He watched the four men, smiling as he pulled the identification card Jiang Wan had once given him from his pocket. He looked at their stunned eyes and laughed.
