091 Divided into Two Paths
Overpowered by his own teammates, Su Mu had no way to voice the bitterness in his heart. He had asked them more than once why they were helping the ghostly being, but they stood there like pieces of wood and never answered.
“How do you plan to divide it?” Midnight asked as he toyed with a branch, scribbling idly on the ground.
“If we go by your maximum tolerance, how long can you hold them off?” Lin Wan asked.
Su Mu froze, then hurriedly waved his hands. “I don’t want it.”
Midnight smiled. “No problem.”
“You can’t handle that ghostly thing!” Su Mu shivered and, trembling, recounted what had happened after the six of them entered the Forbidden Forest. At first, the plan had been for all six to capture the ghost together, but Su Mu knew that an ancient tree existed within the forest, and he wanted to fully awaken his own power first. So he colluded with one of the six and secretly slipped away to search for the ancient tree.
“Why have you stopped walking?” Wu Mingran said with open contempt, looking at the cowardly Su Mu.
I called out to Su Mu, but he kept walking forward and did not answer me.
I pressed a hand to Su Mu’s shoulder and looked into his eyes.
Su Mu flinched and hurriedly waved his hands. “I don’t want it.”
“Then what about you?”
So Su Mu’s first instinct was to urge us to leave at once. Though he did not know why, for a few brief moments, he had been able to break free of the ghost’s control, the next instant a violent headache crashed down on him like a collapsing sky. The ghost’s will desperately tried to force its way into Su Mu’s mind.
“Maybe we should call for reinforcements,” Lin Wan suggested.
Even though Wu Mingran was already an awakened contractor wielding an ancient relic, I still did not believe he could defeat those five on his own.
Before we could even make a move, the four people from the previous team suddenly rushed out and surrounded the two of them.
As for Zheng Wei, Su Mu had not the slightest confidence that he could beat him. He and the other teammate held out for less than three minutes before being overwhelmed by the other four and defeated.
“You should run!” Su Mu seemed to grow anxious, repeatedly shoving at us, but his strength appeared to have been drained away; his pushes landed on us weak and limp.
Compared with the furious assault from moments before, he seemed like a completely different person.
“Maybe ten seconds,” he said.
Only then did he realize that the owner of the ghostly thing possessed the power to turn others into his puppets. Even Zheng Wei’s awakened Shadow Ghost had become plaything to that creature, so the rest of us were even less worth considering.
Charcoal said nothing, which amounted to agreement, and Lin Wan had no objections either.
“I think something is wrong here.”
The journey afterward went smoothly as well. In less than half a day, they successfully completed their awakening.
After awakening, Su Mu returned with the other person to the agreed meeting place, only to find it had been wrecked beyond recognition. Following the traces of battle, they caught up with the ghost that had been hiding in the Forbidden Forest.
In the end, it was the ghost that walked up to the two of them and said a single sentence.
Lin Wan’s plan was to split us into separate groups: one team would go to the school gate to draw away the Ox-Head and Horse-Face, while another would go deep into the Forbidden Forest to lure out the ghost. As long as the two sides met, we could watch the tigers fight from the mountain and profit as the fisherman.
“Why have you stopped walking?”
“Break!”
After that, all he felt was a piercing stab through his brain before he lost consciousness. When Su Mu came to again, he was already fighting against us.
Under the constant comfort of Han Xue and me, Su Mu finally recovered a little of his confidence and led Han Xue and me back along the route he had taken.
“The fighting strength of those four is probably far beyond ordinary people like us.”
Although Su Mu had calmed down, his eyes were filled with unease. He kept glancing around, as if something terrible might appear from the forest at any moment.
“This thing is strange.”
“The master must be getting impatient already!”
Lin Wan asked, “Can you withstand this kind of attack?”
A sudden burst rang out. Su Mu cried out in pain and dropped to his knees, drenched in sweat, his chest rising and falling as he gasped for breath.
Before we could even make a move, the four people from the previous team suddenly rushed out and surrounded the two of them.
